Learn early-summer fishing techniques: pick the right spot, use the right bait, and seize the moment to catch fish easily
Early summer generally refers to the period from the Beginning of Summer to around the Summer Solstice. Air and water temperatures rise steadily, fish metabolism speeds up, and their feeding activity increases noticeably, making this one of the better fishing periods of the year. However, the temperature difference between day and night in early summer is still fairly large, the water temperature is rather high at noon, and the depth at which fish schools are active changes noticeably, so the timing of outings and the choice of fishing spots require more care than in other seasons.
As for when to go fishing, water temperatures are comfortable in the early morning and at dusk, and fish tend to swim toward the shallow water near the shore to feed, so the catch rate is higher; at night, large fish move close to the bank, making it suitable to sit and wait for larger species such as common carp and grass carp; on sunny days at noon, the light is strong and the surface water temperature is high, so fish mostly retreat to deep water or shady spots. At such times it is best to fish deep and in the shade, or to rest a while and avoid the hottest part of the day.
As for fishing spots, priority can be given to places with plenty of dissolved oxygen and abundant food, such as water inlets, downwind shores, under tree shade, and the edges of aquatic plants. As the temperature continues to rise, fish schools gradually move toward deeper water; fishing shallow in the morning and evening and deep at noon is a fairly common approach, though in practice you should also adjust flexibly according to the underwater terrain.
As for bait, once the water temperature rises, fish prefer milder flavors. Grain-based baits such as tender corn, wheat kernels, and fermented bait are favored by common carp and grass carp, while for crucian carp you can use a commercial bait combining fishy and fragrant notes. When small trash fish are badly disturbing the nest, you can reduce the bait's clouding effect and slow the casting frequency to give the target fish a chance to enter the spot.
It is also worth noting that early summer has more thunderstorms and muggy weather, so before going fishing you should check the weather forecast, avoid periods of thunderstorms and strong wind, and also take care with sun protection and hydration. Master the above points and adapt flexibly to local water conditions, and early-summer fishing can often bring a good catch.
