Bamboo shoot disease control is an important part of bamboo forest management, mainly aimed at preventing and treating various fungal and bacterial diseases that harm bamboo shoots and bamboo plants. Once bamboo shoots become infected, at best their growth is hindered and quality declines, and at worst they rot and die, which in turn affects the output of the entire bamboo forest and the income of bamboo farmers, so doing a good job of prevention and control is essential.

Common bamboo shoot diseases in production include shoot rot, bamboo witches' broom, bamboo culm rust, and sooty mold. Shoot rot mostly occurs during the shoot emergence period, showing as rotting of the shoot body and loss of edible value; witches' broom causes branches to cluster and the bamboo plant to gradually weaken; rust and sooty mold mainly harm the culms and leaves, weakening the vigor of the bamboo plant. Different diseases have different onset conditions and affected parts, so they need to be identified and treated accordingly.

Agricultural control is the basic measure. When planting, choose disease-free, robust mother bamboo, reasonably control bamboo forest density, and ensure ventilation and light penetration; during the rainy season, pay attention to digging ditches for drainage to avoid long-term waterlogging of the forest land; promptly remove diseased plants, diseased shoots, and fallen leaves and debris and dispose of them centrally to reduce the accumulation of pathogen sources. Moderate loosening of the soil and fertilization during routine tending can enhance the bamboo plant's own disease resistance.

When the disease is relatively severe, chemical control can be combined with removal of the diseased parts, disinfecting the soil and shoot holes before shoot emergence, and spraying the corresponding fungicide at the early stage of the disease, taking care to rotate medications and operate according to the instructions. Overall, the principle of prevention first and integrated control should be adhered to, and inspections and monitoring should be carried out year-round in combination with forest land management, so as to effectively control the occurrence and spread of bamboo shoot diseases.
