Lucky bamboo (Dracaena sanderiana) is an evergreen foliage plant of the genus Dracaena. Although its name contains "bamboo," it is not a true bamboo. Its stems are upright and its leaves are slender and emerald green, giving the plant a graceful and elegant form. It can be grown in soil or hydroponically, and it is a common ornamental green plant in homes and offices.

In traditional culture, lucky bamboo symbolizes wealth and good fortune and rising step by step. During festivals and when moving to a new home or opening a business, it is often used to decorate the environment. It has low light requirements and can grow normally when placed in a spot with bright, indirect light indoors, making it very suitable for beginners who lack experience in growing flowers.

Hydroponics is the most common way to care for lucky bamboo. Before hydroponic cultivation, the bottom of the stem can be cut at a slant to increase the water-absorbing area; change the water frequently before rooting to keep the water clean, and after rooting it is not necessary to change the water frequently. Simply add water appropriately when the water level drops. In winter, pay attention to cold protection and warmth, and avoid direct cold wind and prolonged low temperatures, otherwise the plant is prone to cold damage.

In daily care, problems with lucky bamboo mostly show on the leaves, such as wilting, yellowing, or spots. These are mostly related to deteriorating water quality, excessive light, unsuitable temperature, or insufficient nutrients. Yellow leaves should be cut off promptly and the cause investigated. As long as the stems and roots are healthy, the plant can generally recover its vitality after the environment is improved.

Propagating lucky bamboo is also very simple. Cut a stem section with nodes, insert it into clean water or a loose substrate, and keep the environment warm and humid. After a period of time, it will take root and sprout, making it easy to turn one stem into many.
