What to Do If the Water for Hydroponic Lucky Bamboo Smells Bad? Causes and Solutions
I. Causes:
If the water smells bad, it is generally because anaerobic bacteria have grown in the liquid. This is a bad sign. If it is left alone and ignored, over time it will easily cause the plant's roots to rot, and its leaves will inevitably turn yellow.
II. Solutions:
1. First take the bamboo stems out of the smelly water, rinse their roots with water to remove the odor first, then check whether there are any roots that have already rotted or become moldy. If any are found, cut them off directly, then dry them in the shade. Leave them in a dry environment for 20 minutes. The purpose of this step is to effectively remove the anaerobic bacteria on the roots.
2. While they are drying in the previous step, pour out all the water in the bottle, scrub the inside of the bottle with a brush, then thoroughly disinfect the bottle once with 84.
3. Pour new water into the disinfected bottle. The new water should be tap water that has been left standing for a day and a night. If there is not enough time to let it stand, purified water can be used instead.
4. Go to some pharmacies to look for metronidazole tablets. These tablets are very cheap, but their main function is to kill anaerobic bacteria. After buying them, the tablets can be ground into powder, or they can be dropped whole into the vase. The amount used is calculated according to the capacity of the vase, but even one extra or one fewer tablet does not matter much.
