Grass carp bait refers to the general term for all kinds of bait used specifically for fishing grass carp. Grass carp is a typical herbivorous fish, normally feeding on aquatic plants, tender grass and the leaves of various plants, so grass carp bait is mostly built around plant-based ingredients, while also needing to be adjusted flexibly according to the season and local fish conditions.

In terms of common types, grass carp bait can be broadly divided into three categories: natural plant baits, grain baits and commercial baits. Natural plant baits include tender grass tips, reed leaves, vegetable leaves, pumpkin flowers and so on, which are hooked directly and closely match the natural feeding habits of grass carp. Grain baits are represented by tender corn, fermented corn and wheat grains, among which fermented corn with a slight sour aroma is especially popular with grass carp; it can be used both as hook bait for fishing and to throw in as groundbait to attract fish.

Seasonal changes have a considerable influence on bait choice. When water temperatures are higher in summer and autumn, grass carp have a strong appetite, and plant baits and fermented grains generally perform well; in spring and autumn or when water temperatures are lower, grain aroma or ingredients with a fishy smell can be appropriately added to boost feeding appeal. Hooking grass leaves suits float fishing with a jigging bite, while granular baits such as corn are better suited to bottom fishing, and the fishing depth should also be adjusted flexibly according to the actual bites.

A few points also need attention when using them: bait should be kept fresh, and moldy or spoiled materials should not be used; when hooking grass leaves, it is best to leave the hook point exposed so it is easier to set the hook; if there are no bites for a long time, you can try changing the type of bait or altering the fishing depth. Overall, there is no fixed, unchanging formula for grass carp bait; observing more and trying more in combination with local water conditions is often more effective than copying someone else's plan.
