Hydroponic flower technology is a growing method that uses water instead of soil as the growing medium, placing plant roots directly into a prepared nutrient solution so they receive the water, nutrients and oxygen they need. Compared with traditional soil growing, hydroponics is cleaner and more hygienic, without the mess that soil brings, and it can also reduce problems from soil-borne pests and diseases, making it especially suitable for indoor environments such as home balconies, living rooms and offices.

Quite a few flowers are suitable for hydroponics. Common ones include pothos, spider plant, peace lily, anthurium, hyacinth, narcissus and gardenia, and some succulents can also adapt to growing in water after acclimation. When converting a plant from soil to hydroponics, it is generally necessary to first wash the soil off the roots, cut away aged or rotted roots, and then let the plant gradually adapt to the aquatic environment.

In daily care, changing the water is a key step. In spring and summer, when temperatures are higher, it can be changed appropriately more often, while in autumn and winter the frequency can be reduced. At the same time, note that the water level should not be too high; it is best to keep part of the roots exposed above the water so they can breathe. As for light, most hydroponic flowers like bright, indirect light and should be protected from long periods of direct sun. When the temperature is low, cold protection is also needed to prevent the roots from freezing.

During care, if the water becomes cloudy, the roots turn black or there is an unusual odor, the container should be cleaned promptly, the rotten roots trimmed and fresh water added. When using nutrient solution, it is better to err on the dilute side rather than making it too strong; just dilute and add it according to the instructions. As long as you get the key points of water changing, light and nutrients right, hydroponic flowers can maintain good growth and add a touch of fresh greenery to the home.
