Greenhouse hydroponic cultivation of chives refers to a soilless cultivation method in which, within a greenhouse environment, no soil is used and the chive roots directly contact the nutrient solution to absorb nutrients. Chives are a perennial herbaceous plant of the genus Allium, with a short and compact plant habit, hollow and tender leaves, and a fresh fragrance; they are often used as a seasoning vegetable. Placing them in a greenhouse and using hydroponics can avoid soilborne diseases, and the product is also cleaner and more uniform.

Compared with soil cultivation, the advantage of greenhouse hydroponics lies in a controllable environment. Temperature, humidity, and light can all be adjusted manually; even in winter, chives can maintain a relatively stable growth rate. The nutrient solution can be formulated according to the growth stage, nutrient supply is uniform, plant growth is consistent, and the quality of the harvested leaves differs little.

In production, sturdy chive seedlings are generally first grown or purchased, the roots are washed clean, and then they are transplanted into hydroponic troughs or planting boards. Daily management should focus on the concentration, pH, and oxygen content of the nutrient solution, regularly replenishing or replacing the nutrient solution, and preventing root hypoxia and browning. Ventilation should also be noted in the greenhouse to avoid leaf rot caused by high temperature and high humidity; when light is insufficient, supplemental lighting can be applied appropriately.

Chives have relatively strong regrowth ability. When harvesting, leave an appropriate stubble height, and new leaves can continue to sprout afterward, allowing multiple harvests and continuous supply. Hydroponic chives have high cleanliness and a neat appearance, making them suitable for connecting with supermarkets and catering channels. For beginners who want to try soilless cultivation, chives take up little space and grow quickly, making them one of the easier crops to start with in a greenhouse.
