The Lipstick Kohaku koi has distinctive features, and its care is similar to that of ordinary koi.

The Lipstick Kohaku koi is a distinctive strain within the Kohaku koi group. Kohaku koi are characterized by a white base with red markings and are regarded as one of the most representative categories of koi. What makes the Lipstick Kohaku special is that the red patch on the head appears only near the lips, so from a distance it looks as if the fish is wearing a coat of lipstick, hence the name.

In terms of appreciation, this strain emphasizes the overall coordination between the head markings and the patterns on the sides of the body. In an ideal Lipstick Kohaku koi, the red patch on the lips is centered, with clear edges and a moderate size; if it is too large or skewed, it will affect the fish's quality. The white ground on the body should be snowy white and fine, the red markings should be deep and even in color, and the pattern on the back should be well balanced. The sharper the contrast between red and white, the higher the ornamental value.

Similar to it in head features are the Tancho Kohaku and the Menkaburi Kohaku. The Tancho Kohaku has only a single round red patch on top of the head, the Menkaburi Kohaku's red patch covers the entire head, while the Lipstick Kohaku has the smallest red patch area, concentrated only around the mouth; the three are very easy to tell apart when placed together.

As for care, the Lipstick Kohaku koi has basically the same requirements as ordinary koi. In daily maintenance, keep the water clean, equip a complete filtration system, change the water regularly and keep the water temperature stable, and feed high-quality food while controlling the amount. Usually observe the fish's condition more often; once abnormalities such as white spots, rubbing against the tank, or a decrease in appetite appear, they should be isolated and treated promptly to prevent the spread of disease. Under suitable conditions, the Lipstick Kohaku can also grow robustly with bright, beautiful markings.
