During the fry stage, it mainly damages the skin and fin rays.
In adult fish, besides attacking the skin, it also heavily infests the gills, oral mucosa and nostrils. When the fish body and gill filaments are irritated by large numbers of pathogens, it causes excessive mucus secretion, which glues the gill lamellae together, restricting the normal movement of the gill filaments, making it difficult for the fish to breathe. In severe cases, the fish body becomes emaciated and turns black, floats at the water surface, or hangs motionless in the downwind area of the pond and dies.

Dead diseased fish have more mucus on the body surface, pale red gill filaments, and thickened gill filaments.

The suitable breeding temperature for Chilodonella is 12 ~ 18°C. When the water temperature drops to 8 ~ 10°C, it can still appear in large numbers, while when the water temperature is above 28°C, this disease is unlikely to occur.
① Use 150 kg of quicklime per mu of fish pond for thorough pond clearing and disinfection.
② For prevention, soak with 8×10 -6 copper sulfate or 2 ×10-6 yadong nitrate for half an hour.
③ For treatment, splash the whole pond with 0.5 ×10-6 copper sulfate + 0.2 ×10-6 ferrous sulfate.
