It is a disease caused by a relatively large protozoan ciliate visible to the naked eye -- Ichthyophthirius multifiliis. It parasitizes the skin, fin rays and gill tissue of koi, feeding on the epithelial cells of the koi. In severe cases, the whole body skin and fin rays are covered with white cysts, hence the name white spot disease.
The outbreak of koi white spot disease has fairly obvious seasonality, generally occurring in spring and autumn at 15 ~ 25°C. When the water temperature drops below 10°C and rises to 26 ~ 28°C, the parasite's development stops, and above 28°C the larvae die.

① Since Ichthyophthirius that has left the fish body cannot survive freely for long, and the larvae hatched from the cysts can only survive 36 ~ 48 hours, then, provided there are no other diseases, natural elimination methods can be adopted to achieve the goal of eradicating Ichthyophthirius. All the koi can be removed from the pond or tank, and after 7 10 days of resting empty, the Ichthyophthirius in the water will die completely.
② For an affected fish pond, per mu of water surface per meter of water depth, use 210 grams of chili powder and 100 grams of dried ginger slices, boil into 25 kg of solution, and splash it over the whole pond, once a day, for 2 consecutive days.
③ During treatment, use 0.1 ×10-6 - 0.15 ×1o-6 silver nitrate solution splashed over the whole pond.
④ 0.6 ×10 6 silver nitrate solution splashed over the whole pond.
⑤ For small water bodies, the heating method of raising the water temperature to zsc°C or above for 3 consecutive days can be used for treatment.
⑥ Note :Copper sulfate and ferrous sulfate mixture cannot be used to treat Ichthyophthirius disease. Using this drug not only is ineffective at killing Ichthyophthirius, but instead promotes Ichthyophthirius to form cysts and multiply in large numbers, making the condition worse.
