The Gold Showa Hikarimono koi belongs to the Hikarimono category of koi and is usually produced by crossbreeding Showa Sanshoku with Ogon koi. While it retains the red, white and black tricolor patterning of Showa Sanshoku, its body surface carries a metallic luster, which is how it got the name Gold Showa. The same category also includes closely related varieties such as Kin Kikokuryu and Silver Showa.

In appearance, Gold Showa has large black patches and red patches distributed over the head and flanks, with a base color that tends toward white or a faint yellow, and the scales give off a bright golden reflection under light. When appraising this type of fish, the usual criteria are whether the metallic luster is strong and even, whether the patterning is balanced, and whether the edges of the black markings are clear; body shape and swimming posture are also important references.

For keeping, Gold Showa Hikarimono koi have basically the same requirements as ordinary koi and do best in water with sufficient dissolved oxygen and stable water quality. Whether kept in a pond or a tank, a good filtration system should be installed, regular water changes should be maintained, and the water temperature should be kept steady. Feeding should be based mainly on specially formulated compound feed, and when the water temperature is on the low side, feeding should be reduced appropriately to avoid leftover food fouling the water.

In daily management, the focus should be on preventing common diseases. White spot disease, Chilodonella, Trichodina, as well as parasitic diseases such as Lernaea and fish lice, are all fairly common in koi. Usually you should observe the fish's body surface mucus, breathing and swimming state more often, and when abnormalities such as rubbing against the pond, congestion or white spots appear, isolate and treat them early. Thanks to their striking metallic sheen and tricolor patterning, Gold Showa Hikarimono koi have high ornamental value whether kept alone or mixed with other koi.
