The Jinshui Metallic Koi is one of the many varieties of koi, belonging to the metallic-scaled koi group whose body surface carries a metallic sheen. It is generally believed to be a variety developed by crossbreeding and selecting from the Shusui and Ogon (golden) lines. It retains the scale-row characteristics of the Shusui while inheriting the metallic texture of the Ogon, making it one of the more easily recognizable and distinctive types of ornamental koi.

In appearance, the back and the area around the lateral line of the Jinshui usually bear large, neatly arranged scales, with a base color mostly of blue-gray or silver-gray overlaid with a golden or pale yellow metallic luster that is especially striking in bright light. Because the body surface is highly reflective, the same fish can show noticeably different colors under morning and evening light, which is also a common trait of the metallic-scaled koi group.

As for keeping, the Jinshui has water quality requirements similar to those of other koi, preferring water that is rich in dissolved oxygen and clean and stable. In daily care, the filtration system needs to be kept running properly and the water changed regularly. Feeding should be done at set times and in set amounts, using a nutritionally balanced koi-specific feed, and the amount fed should be reduced appropriately when the water temperature is low, to avoid leftover food fouling the water.

When selecting one, focus on whether the luster is even, whether the scale rows are neat, and whether the body shape is smooth. In routine care, attention should also be paid to disease problems. When the seasons change or water quality fluctuates, koi are prone to parasitic diseases such as white spot disease, Chilodonella, and anchor worms. If a fish is seen scraping against the tank, clamping its fins, losing appetite, or showing white spots on the body surface or other abnormalities, it should be isolated and treated promptly. Overall, keeping water quality stable and sticking to scientific feeding is the key to raising a healthy Jinshui Metallic Koi.
