Calcium humate is an organic-inorganic compound fertilizer that combines humic acid with calcium. It is mostly processed from raw materials rich in humic acid, such as weathered coal, lignite and peat. Its common form is dark brown powder or granules, and there are also products with good solubility that can be used for flushing application and drip irrigation.

It has both soil-improving and calcium-supplementing effects. Humic acid can promote the formation of soil aggregates, ease compaction, improve water- and fertilizer-holding capacity, and also chelate medium and trace elements, improving fertilizer use efficiency; calcium is an important component of cell walls and cell membranes, and an adequate calcium supply helps reduce physiological diseases caused by calcium deficiency, such as tomato blossom-end rot, cabbage tipburn and apple bitter pit.

In terms of application, calcium humate can be applied as a base fertilizer into the plow layer, and can also be applied as a topdressing with irrigation water during the crop growing period. It is used more often on melons and fruits, vegetables, fruit trees, and calcium-loving crops such as peanuts and cotton. It should be noted that it should not be mixed directly with fertilizers containing phosphate radicals, so as to avoid forming precipitates that affect fertilizer efficiency; the amount used should be determined according to soil conditions and crop needs, avoiding blindly increasing inputs.

Compared with applying lime alone, calcium humate can also supplement organic matter while supplementing calcium, and its regulation of soil is gentler, making it suitable as a choice for long-term soil fertility building. When purchasing, it is recommended to choose regular products with clear nutrient labeling and good solubility, store them in a dry place, and mix and use them immediately for better results.
