Introduction to spring corn fertilization methods

As temperatures gradually rise now, most regions are beginning the spring corn planting period. When planting spring corn, fertilization work is certainly indispensable. Reasonable fertilization can effectively improve the yield and quality of spring corn and is very beneficial to the growth of spring corn. So how should spring corn be fertilized? Today, the editor brings you an introduction to spring corn fertilization methods. Let's take a look below!

1. Fertilization principles

Before fertilizing spring corn, it is best to carry out soil testing and formula fertilization to determine the proportions of nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in the fertilizer. When applying nitrogen fertilizer, it should be applied in split applications. For fields with higher yields, the proportion of potassium fertilizer should be appropriately increased. Then, according to factors such as climate change and soil fertility, reasonably combine the application of seed fertilizer and base fertilizer. Increase the proportion of organic fertilizer. If straw is returned to the field for a long time, the amount of fertilization can be reduced. At the same time, attention should also be paid to the application of medium and trace elements such as sulfur and zinc. If the soil is too acidic, alkaline fertilizer should be appropriately increased.

2. Base fertilizer

Base fertilizer is the fertilizer we need to focus on applying when planting spring corn. Base fertilizer is mainly organic fertilizer, supplemented by nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer. Among them, phosphate fertilizer should be fully applied at this stage, and the amount of nitrogen fertilizer should be kept at about 1/3 of the annual fertilization amount. Potassium fertilizer can also be fully applied during this period, or it can be used as seed fertilizer. When fertilizing, it should be applied all at once into the sowing furrow in combination with plowing and land preparation work, ensuring that the fertilizer is concentrated in the 10-15 cm soil layer.

3. Seed fertilizer

In addition to base fertilizer, seed fertilizer also requires our attention. There are various application methods such as seed dressing and seed soaking. If it is seed dressing, then humic acid, micro fertilizer or biological fertilizer, etc. can be selected, diluted and dissolved, then sprayed onto the seeds while mixing the seeds, keeping the corn seeds fully exposed to the fertilizer, and after drying in the shade they can be sown. For seed soaking, dilute the fertilizer to a suitable concentration, then soak the seeds in the liquid for about 10 hours, dry them in the shade and sow. Finally, row application and hole application can also be used, applying the seed fertilizer deeply, with the amount kept at about 3-4 kg. However, note that urea, ammonium chloride, etc. cannot be used as seed fertilizer.

4. Topdressing

When topdressing, all of the remaining 2/3 of the nitrogen fertilizer should be applied as topdressing. Spring corn topdressing should be divided into four applications: seedling fertilizer, jointing fertilizer, ear fertilizer and grain fertilizer. Among them, special attention should be paid to the application of jointing fertilizer and ear fertilizer. Jointing fertilizer is usually applied within 10 days after corn jointing, which can promote corn stalk growth and young ear differentiation. About 1/3 of the nitrogen fertilizer should be included, and when fertilizing, the fertilizer should be placed about 6 cm away from the seedlings. Then the remaining nitrogen fertilizer should be applied as ear fertilizer, which should be applied half a month before spring corn tasseling. It can improve the quality and quantity of the ears and is beneficial to the later grain filling of spring corn.

The above is a brief introduction to spring corn fertilization methods. That's all for today's introduction. This article is for reference only and I hope it can help everyone!
