What are the precautions for the sowing period of sweet corn? Keep these points in mind
Sweet corn is deeply loved by consumers for its rich nutrition and its sweet, fresh, crisp and tender qualities, and because of its high sugar content and long suitable harvest period, it is widely planted. Now let's take a look with the editor at what should be noted during the sowing period of sweet corn.

1. Isolated planting
In order to ensure the edible quality of sweet corn, when choosing land for planting, it should be different from other varieties. During sowing, the isolated planting method should be adopted. Generally, it can be divided into two methods: spatial isolation and temporal isolation, but spatial isolation is preferred. Spatial isolation requires that no other corn varieties be planted within 300-400 m of the planting area. If there are natural barriers such as forests or hills, the isolation distance can be appropriately shortened. If spatial isolation cannot be adopted, temporal isolation can be used, mainly by staggering the sowing time to avoid the flowering periods of sweet corn and other varieties overlapping. The sowing interval between the two varieties should preferably be 20-25 days. If planting in large contiguous areas, the isolation standard can be appropriately lowered.
2. Fine land preparation
Because sweet corn seeds are generally shriveled and small, emergence after sowing is more difficult than with ordinary corn seeds, so fine land preparation is required before sowing. When planting, choose plots with loose soil, fertile soil and convenient drainage and irrigation. After the previous crop is harvested, plow 20-30 cm in time, and apply sufficient base fertilizer in combination with plowing. Generally, apply 1000-1500 kg of decomposed organic fertilizer, 30-40 kg of superphosphate and 20 kg of potassium sulfate per mu. Where conditions permit, the method of raising seedlings and transplanting can also be adopted for planting.
3. Sowing in stages
The main use of sweet corn is to sell fresh ears on the market or supply processing plants to produce canned food. It is completely different from ordinary corn in cultivation, and it is not resistant to storage. Therefore, when planting sweet corn, sowing should be carried out in stages according to market demand, the processing capacity of factories and orders, and early-, mid- and late-maturing varieties should be combined to improve economic benefits. When sowing, generally 3-4 seeds per hole, cover with soil in time after sowing, and the sowing depth should also be slightly shallower than that of ordinary corn.
4. Reasonable close planting
The planting density of sweet corn should be determined according to variety characteristics, soil fertility, sowing time and planting method. At the same time, attention should be paid to the commercial quality of the ears. In general soil with medium fertility, 3500-4000 plants per mu is appropriate. Early-maturing varieties can be appropriately planted more densely, with 4000-5000 plants per mu, while late-maturing varieties can be appropriately planted more sparsely, with 3000-3500 plants per mu being appropriate.
