Spring Management Techniques for Greenhouse Cucumbers

Cucumber is a very common fruiting vegetable in our daily lives. It is grown all over China, and nowadays cucumbers are mostly grown in greenhouses. Growing cucumbers in greenhouses makes it possible to produce them out of season. When growing greenhouse cucumbers, we need to carry out management work properly according to the season. So how should greenhouse cucumbers be managed in spring? Today, the editor brings you the spring management techniques for greenhouse cucumbers. Let's take a look below!

1. Land preparation

The roots and stems of cucumber seedlings have a very high water content and are rather brittle; if management is poor during planting, they break easily. Their tolerance to waterlogging and drought is both relatively poor. Therefore, we must pay attention to doing the land preparation work well. When preparing the land, make sure the soil is level, and give it a suitable tilt in one direction. Improve the soil's water-holding capacity, ensure there are no large clods in the soil, and that it is rich in organic matter. When plowing, we should also apply sufficient decomposed organic fertilizer in layers. The fertilizer can be chicken manure, cake fertilizer, etc., to ensure the soil has adequate nutrients.

2. Soil disinfection

The multiple cropping index in greenhouse soil is relatively high, but the level of pathogens will also be relatively high. So we should also pay attention to soil disinfection work, using agents such as fulvic acid salt or carbendazim for disinfection. Mix them with fine soil and broadcast it on the clods, then ridge and cultivate. When making the ridges, base them mainly on wide and narrow rows. Keep the wide rows at about 80cm and the narrow rows at about 70cm. Also dig watering furrows between the ridges, keeping an appropriate amount of water in the furrows. Finally, cover the ridges with a layer of plastic film to raise the ground temperature.

3. Timely planting

After completing the land preparation and disinfection work, we should plant at the right time. When planting, we first need to plant one row on each side of the ridges and drainage furrows. Keep the plant and row spacing at about 30*60cm. Control the planting quantity well; do not plant too many per mu. Also, before lifting the seedlings, we should sterilize and disinfect the seedling bed once with chlorothalonil. After the whole greenhouse has been planted, fumigate and disinfect the greenhouse once more with fumigants such as Subaiyan and Yashijue smoke agents, to reduce the incidence of pests and diseases.

4. Strengthen management

When the cucumber vines grow to about 30cm, do the vine-hanging work well and remove the vines from the seedlings. Improve air permeability and promote rapid growth. Carry out watering properly according to the actual condition of the cucumbers. At the cucumber growing point, if there is no dew in the morning or the temperature at noon is good, then water under the film in time. Also, after the female flowers wither, appropriately supplement a suitable amount of compound fertilizers such as urea and potassium sulfate, to promote fruit enlargement and increase yield. Finally, control the temperature well, and do good work in ventilation, dehumidification and cooling, maintaining a suitable day-night temperature difference.
