What are the common mistakes in peanut sowing? Growers should pay attention

Common peanut sowing mistakes

Peanut is an important oil and food crop in China, and uneven seedling emergence often occurs during peanut cultivation, seriously affecting farmers' income. Uneven seedling emergence in peanuts is mainly caused by three reasons. Let's take a look at the common peanut sowing mistakes with the editor.

1. Sowing time

Spring-sown peanuts have a longer growth period, so medium-to-late maturing varieties are suitable. Based on practical experience, sowing spring peanuts ten days earlier or ten days later makes little difference to the final yield. Therefore, it is recommended that growers sow according to local temperature and sow after the temperature has stabilized. It is best to sow after the ground temperature has stabilized above 15°C. In addition, when sowing, pay attention to the weather forecast and check the local weather changes within 15 days to see whether there will be a significant temperature drop in the coming half month. Also pay attention to rainy days. If it rains after sowing, peanuts are highly likely to rot.

2. Sowing depth

Peanut sowing mostly uses hole sowing, drill sowing and mechanical sowing. Whether by manual sowing or mechanical sowing, the sowing depth should follow the principle of "do not sow deep in dry soil, do not sow shallow in wet soil." Generally, a sowing depth of about 5 cm is appropriate. When the soil temperature is low, the humidity is high and the soil is heavy and sticky, sowing should be appropriately shallow, but it must not be shallower than 3 cm; while loose sandy soil can be sown appropriately deeper. However, the deepest must not exceed 7 cm. For general soil, keeping the sowing depth at 3-7 cm is appropriate.

3. Seed dressing

To prevent and control pests and diseases, many growers now have the habit of dressing seeds before sowing. This is a good habit, but if the seed dressing is done improperly, it may break the peanut seed coat, which can also cause uneven seedling emergence. This is because the peanut seed coat is very thin. If the germ is damaged, it will affect the seedling emergence rate. In addition, when dressing seeds manually, pay attention that the amount of water used should not be too much, and stir gently during the mixing process to avoid breaking the seed coat.
