Causes of Rotten Base in Tremella and Control Methods

Tremella, also known as white wood ear and snow ear, is both a precious nutritional tonic and sometimes a health-strengthening tonic, and has the reputation of "the crown of fungi." It has always been loved by everyone. During the cultivation of Tremella, the phenomenon of rotten base is very prone to occur, so what causes rotten base in Tremella? How should it be controlled? Let's learn about it together with the editor.

I. Causes of Rotten Base in Tremella

1. Excessive carbon dioxide concentration

Tremella has relatively high temperature requirements during cultivation, and when cultivated in low-temperature seasons, if the temperature is too low, its fruiting bodies cannot differentiate and grow, so some growers will make a fire indoors to raise the temperature, but forget to ventilate. Although the temperature is suitable, the carbon dioxide concentration indoors also keeps rising, and when it reaches a certain threshold, it will cause rotten base in Tremella.

2. Accumulation of yellow water droplets

During the fruiting body differentiation stage of Tremella, its ear base will exude "yellow water droplets." If these "yellow water droplets" are not blown away or wiped dry in time, once they are allowed to accumulate and deposit, they will cause rotten base and rotten ears.

3. Excessive humidity

During the fruiting body maturation stage of Tremella, relatively high humidity is needed to promote its maturation, but if humidification is excessive and ventilation is not carried out in time, the high-humidity environment will cause rotten base and rotten ears.

4. Damage by fungus mites

Mites like warm and humid environments and often lurk in rice straw, rice bran, wheat bran, and cotton hulls to lay eggs, and the Tremella cultivation environment is just suitable for their reproduction and growth. Therefore, when the culture material is not thoroughly disinfected and sterilized, fungus mites will parasitize on the Tremella and the culture material, absorb nutrients, secrete substances harmful to Tremella growth, and cause rotten base.

5. Water sprayed onto the fruiting bodies

As we mentioned earlier, during the fruiting body growth and development stage of Tremella, the humidity requirement is relatively high, so timely humidification is needed, and the best way to humidify is spraying water. If during the water-spraying process the water is sprayed directly onto the fruiting bodies and is not wiped dry in time, it will also cause rotten base of the fruiting bodies.

II. Control Methods

During Tremella cultivation, in addition to managing ventilation and water spraying well, attention should also be paid to temperature. During the growth stage of Tremella, the suitable temperature should be controlled between 22-25 degrees, and the relative humidity should be controlled at 85%-95%. It should not be too high; if too high, ventilate in time to reduce humidity. If pest damage occurs, promptly spray methamidophos solution or apply it to the covering newspaper for repellent or trap killing.
