How to plant radish greens

Radish greens are actually the leaves of radishes that have not yet fully developed, and their nutritional value is even higher than that of radishes. Whether used in soup, stir-fried plain, or pickled, they taste very fresh and delicious. So how should radish greens be planted? Let's take a look together.

1. Land preparation and fertilizing

First, choose a plot that is sheltered from the wind and faces the sun. Deeply plow the soil before winter and let it dry in the sunlight to kill pathogens and insect eggs in the soil, thereby reducing the chance of pests and diseases. Then apply 3000 kg of farmyard manure per mu as base fertilizer, prepare the land finely, and make beds 1.5 m long and 1.2 m wide for easy handling.

2. Sowing

Radish greens can be planted all year round, but in the north it is best to plant in early March in spring, and plastic film mulching or small arch sheds can be used. To improve the taste, you can choose to plant Xiaowuying water radish seeds. Before sowing, level the bed surface and water it thoroughly. After the water seeps down, evenly broadcast the seeds on the bed surface, then cover with about one cm of sifted fine soil. Generally, 8-10 grams of seed are used per mu. After that, cover with plastic film or a small arch shed to keep warm and moist and help germination.

3. Seedling stage management

Under suitable temperature and humidity, seedlings usually emerge within one week. When the cotyledons of the seedlings open, the plastic film can be removed, and when the temperature exceeds 25°C, large ventilation can be carried out or the shed film removed. Radish greens are mainly cultivated for their leaves, so sufficient water is needed to speed up leaf growth, especially when the sowing density is too high, so that the yield will be higher. Generally, the soil moisture content needs to be kept between 70%-80%, and during the entire growth period of radish greens, they can be watered once every 3-5 days.

4. Harvesting

Because the main edible part of radish greens is the tender leaves, they should be harvested and used before the fleshy root of the radish has fully swollen. They can also be harvested successively and brought to market successively. When radish greens have 5-6 leaves after emergence, they can be harvested successively. When harvesting, hold the root with your hand and pull it up so the whole plant is harvested. The harvest period can last about one month. Because its production period is short, there are very few pests and diseases, and there is no need to apply pesticides or chemical fertilizers, making it a purely natural green vegetable.
