Detailed Explanation of Autumn Open-Field Cabbage Planting Techniques
Cabbage is very common in China and is a vegetable with very large market demand in our country. Moreover, it is not only a vegetable but can also be used as feed, and its planting area in China is very wide. The planting time of cabbage varies; generally, it can be planted in all four seasons. So as temperatures gradually drop and we enter autumn, how should cabbage be planted in open fields? Below, the editor brings you the autumn open-field cabbage planting techniques. Let's take a look!
1. Sowing and Raising Seedlings
Before sowing, first choose a cool plot with high soil fertility and normal drainage and irrigation. The previous crop in the plot should not be a non-cruciferous crop. After removing the previous crop stalks and weeds, plow and sun the soil, then apply sufficient farmyard manure. Water before sowing to keep the soil moist, then cover the seeds with a layer of fine soil, with the sowing rate controlled at about 50g per mu. After sowing, pay attention to setting up a shade net to avoid excessive temperature causing water to evaporate too quickly. After the seedlings emerge, the shade net can be removed and a shade shed can be set up.
2. Reasonable Seedling Division
When the seedlings have grown about two true leaves, do a good job of seedling division. During seedling division, transplant in grades according to large, medium and small order. Before seedling division, the seedling division field should also be applied with sufficient decomposed farmyard manure, and the transplanting spacing should be controlled at about 10*10cm for temporary planting. Water appropriately when transplanting, provide appropriate shade after planting, and do a good job of watering. If seedlings are divided using nutrient pots or nutrient blocks, then after the seedlings survive, promptly uncover the shading material. Reasonable seedling division can improve the growth ability of the seedlings and is very beneficial to later head formation and stress resistance.
3. Water and Fertilizer Management
After sowing, if the weather is relatively dry with little rain, then water about once every two days. The watering method is generally mainly furrow irrigation, so that water can better seep into the beds and promote the seedlings to emerge. For newly emerged seedlings, on sunny days, water appropriately once every morning. Then adjust the amount of watering appropriately according to the actual conditions of soil and weather. After rain, do a good job of drainage to prevent excessive seedling growth. During the seedling stage, also topdress appropriately twice, with the fertilizer type mainly being decomposed farmyard manure.
4. Field Management
Throughout the entire growth period of cabbage, the number of topdressings should be maintained at about 4 times. Generally, they are carried out at the seedling recovery, rosette, and early and late head formation stages. Among these, special attention should be paid to topdressing at the early head formation stage, and the concentration and amount of topdressing should be appropriately increased with the growth of the plant. Also, control the fertilizer concentration well according to weather changes; in dry weather, mainly use light fertilizer. Then, from the early growth stage to the late growth stage of cabbage, cultivate about twice, which can improve the soil's moisture conservation capacity and promote root growth.
