1. Planting Time for Yellow-Heart Cabbage
Because the climate varies across regions of China, the planting time for yellow-heart cabbage also differs. However, in most areas, late July to early September each year is the best period for sowing yellow-heart cabbage. During this period the climate is warm and the weather temperature is most favorable for the emergence and growth of yellow-heart cabbage seedlings, and planting at this time also makes it very easy to obtain a high yield. Besides this period, March to April each year is also a good time to plant yellow-heart cabbage.
2. Land Preparation and Fertilization
Yellow-heart cabbage is generally planted in autumn. Before planting, the soil needs to be deeply plowed and sufficient base fertilizer applied to ensure the plants can grow well before overwintering, withstand severe cold, overwinter safely, and improve yield and quality. Before sowing, the seedbed land must be deeply plowed and leveled, then beds made. The beds are 1 m wide and any length, ready for sowing.
3. Sowing and Raising Seedlings
When sowing, the seed rate is generally about 400-500 g per mu. Sowing can be done by broadcasting or by hole sowing, depending on your actual situation. After emergence, thin the seedlings in time, with a seedling spacing of 3.3-5 cm and a seedling age of 25-30 days. During the seedling raising period, water frequently and pay attention to controlling striped flea beetles, cabbage caterpillars, aphids and so on.
4. Transplanting
After the seedlings are raised successfully, water them thoroughly, deeply plow and level the land, then transplant the well-grown vegetable seedlings into the field. When transplanting, the seedling spacing should be about 10 cm. After transplanting, there should be a 2 to 3 day shading period. Once the seedlings have recovered, water them thoroughly in time, pay attention to field management and timely topdressing. After about 40 days, yellow-heart cabbage can enter the harvest period.
