Fertilization Methods for Sweet Potatoes During the Bulking Stage

The bulking stage of sweet potatoes occurs from July to September each year. This stage is the key period for yield formation in sweet potatoes and also the period of greatest fertilizer demand. Insufficient fertility may affect the yield of sweet potatoes. So how should sweet potatoes be fertilized during the bulking stage? Follow the editor to take a look.

1. Hole-side topdressing method

You can use a wooden stake to make a hole about 30 cm deep 20-30 cm away from the main root, place an appropriate amount of NPK compound fertilizer into the hole, and seal it well with moist soil after application. If one hole is made on each side of the ridge, the effect is even better. This fertilization method can increase yield by about 20% per mu. Farmers with low yields can adopt this fertilization method.

2. Crack topdressing method

When sweet potatoes are bulking, cracks of different sizes often appear on the ground surface, and we can use these cracks for fertilization. You can use 0.5 kg of potassium dihydrogen phosphate per mu mixed with 400 kg of water, or 2.5 kg of urea and 10 kg of superphosphate mixed with 500 kg of water, to prepare a fertilizer solution and pour it into the cracks. Generally, pour in about 0.7-1 kg. After half a month, use 100 kg of plant ash per mu plus 500 kg of water, soak it for 4-5 hours, then take the extract and pour it into the cracks. After pouring, seal the cracks tightly with soil. This can also achieve an obvious yield-increasing effect.

3. Foliar spraying method

There are many types of foliar fertilizers suitable for spraying on sweet potatoes. Using potassium dihydrogen phosphate, you can spray a 0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution on the leaves once every 7 days, increasing yield by about 18%-20%. In addition, you can also use the ecological agent Diguo Zhuangdiling, which thickens the nutrient transport ducts of underground fruits, improves the bulking vitality of underground fruits, makes the fruit surface smooth and the fruit shape robust, and achieves high quality and high yield. The best spraying time is around 5 p.m.
