Lettuce planting time
Lettuce prefers a cool climate, so sowing is generally done in spring and autumn. In spring, it is usually done from February to April, and it can be harvested in May to June, while for autumn sowing, you can start sowing at the end of August and harvest in September to October. However, because different lettuce varieties have different characteristics, when choosing the sowing time, you should first understand the instructions for the lettuce seeds, and then sow according to the local climate.
Lettuce planting methods
1. Prepare the seedbed. The seedbed should be loosened and leveled, and farmyard manure should be applied in sunlight to ensure the seedbed soil is fine and level, and also nutrient-rich, laying a solid foundation for cultivating strong seedlings.
2. Soak the seeds to promote germination. Carrying out germination treatment before sowing can not only shorten the sprouting time, but also increase the germination rate. Put the lettuce seeds into a wet gauze cloth and soak them in clean water. The soaking time is generally about 3-4 hours, and the water temperature should be kept at room temperature. After soaking, rub and wash gently, then dry off the moisture, put them in a bag to promote germination, and sow when most of the seeds have sprouted.
3. Sowing and raising seedlings. Before sowing, first water the seedbed thoroughly once, and you can also spray some dimethoate solution, which can effectively prevent pest occurrence. When sowing, use 1 gram of seed per square meter, and after sowing, cover with a layer of fine soil to create a good growing environment for the lettuce. When the seedlings emerge, remove the covering promptly, and at the same time strictly control the temperature; in addition, water is also indispensable.
4. Field planting. After the seedlings are one month old, the young plants can be transplanted and set out. When planting, pay attention to stabilizing the seedlings, and at the same time water in the furrow to provide the necessary moisture. Plant reasonably and pay attention to density.
5. Field management. Field management of lettuce consists of daily watering, topdressing and weeding. Generally, water once every 5-7 days. For topdressing, compound fertilizers such as nitrogen and phosphorus are suitable; no topdressing is needed in the early stage.
6. Pest and disease control. The main diseases of lettuce are powdery mildew, downy mildew, etc., and the main pest is the whitefly. So for disease control, you can spray 50% benomyl wettable powder at 1000 times solution or 40% Fuxing emulsifiable concentrate at 7000 times solution for prevention and control, and for pests you can spray dimethoate solution.
