Fast Tomato Seedling Raising Technology

Tomato is a vegetable we see quite often in our daily lives, and it has a very large planting area in our country. When growing tomatoes, we need to do a good job with management to ensure normal growth of the tomatoes and increase yield. Before planting, the work most closely related to tomato yield is seedling raising. So how do you raise tomato seedlings quickly? Below, the editor will give everyone a brief introduction. Let's take a look!

1. Preparatory work

Tomato seedling raising is generally based on plug tray seedling raising, and the number and specifications of plug trays should be controlled according to the number of seedlings. Then prepare the seedling substrate, formulated with peat, vermiculite, etc., with the ratio controlled at about 2:1. After preparing the substrate, we also need to do a good job with base fertilizer application. The base fertilizer is mainly compound fertilizer, applying 2.5kg of compound fertilizer per cubic meter. Mix the fertilizer and substrate thoroughly to improve the fertility of the substrate. Before sowing, pay attention to thoroughly disinfecting the seedbed to reduce the number of bacteria and avoid affecting tomato growth.

2. Treating the seeds

Before sowing tomato seeds, the seeds should be soaked, pre-germinated and disinfected. First, soak the seeds in warm water at about 52 degrees for about 20min. Then soak the seeds in water at about 25 degrees for 4 hours to promote germination. Also, soak the seeds in a solution such as trisodium phosphate for 20 minutes. After soaking with the chemical agent, remove the seeds and then wash off the residual liquid on the seeds. Then sow. When sowing, pay attention to controlling the depth; the depth must not exceed 1 cm. Because it is plug tray seedling raising, just sow the seeds in the sowing holes.

3. Temperature management

When promoting seed germination, pay attention to maintaining the temperature well. Keep the indoor temperature at about 26 degrees, and seedlings generally emerge in about three days. After more than 65% of the seedlings in the plug tray have emerged, the seedlings can be placed in the greenhouse. The daytime temperature in the greenhouse should be controlled at about 25 degrees, and the nighttime temperature should also be kept at about 17 degrees. If the nighttime temperature is too low, then warming measures such as heating with heating wires should also be taken. Avoid slowing seedling emergence and causing diseases such as damping-off.

4. Seedling stage management

After sowing, water thoroughly once to keep the seedling substrate sufficiently moist. When the seedlings grow two true leaves and one heart leaf, the substrate moisture content should be kept at about 68%. Then before the seedlings become established, lower the substrate moisture content by about another 5%. Then after the first true leaf of the seedlings grows, do a good job with reseeding. If there are empty holes, promptly fill them with seedlings of the same growth. Ensure a full stand and complete seedling rate, and then also do a good job with pest and disease control, such as damping-off, viral diseases and aphids, to promote healthy seedling growth.

The above is a brief introduction to fast tomato seedling raising work. Tomato seedling raising is very important for the quality and yield of tomatoes, so everyone must pay much attention to it. That is all for today's introduction. This article is for reference only, and I hope it can help everyone!
