Trichoderma Prevention and Control Techniques for Straw Mushroom

Straw mushroom, also known as orchid mushroom, is mainly distributed in South China. It is nutritious and delicious, and is one of the common dishes; moreover, straw mushroom is now grown quite widely. However, during straw mushroom cultivation, Trichoderma is an extremely harmful disease that seriously affects the yield and quality of straw mushroom. So how should Trichoderma in straw mushroom be prevented and controlled? Let's find out together.

1. Disease symptoms

After straw mushroom is infected with Trichoderma, white cotton-like growths appear, which inhibit the growth of the mycelium. In the later stage, the white cotton-like growths turn green. Once straw mushroom is harmed by Trichoderma, it is basically beyond saving; even a mild infection cannot be kept and must be removed immediately.

2. Disease pattern

Trichoderma, commonly known as green mold, belongs to the Deuteromycotina, Moniliales, genus Trichoderma. It has a strong ability to decompose cellulose and grows quickly on substrates of lignin and cellulose, making it relatively easy to reproduce. Trichoderma can reproduce in the rhizosphere at noon and control harmful fungi by occupying space and nutrients. It can also increase the secretion of antibiotic substances to inhibit the proliferation of harmful fungi, thereby achieving the effect of disease prevention and control.

3. Prevention and control measures

So far, no method has been developed that can completely cure Trichoderma in straw mushroom. Commonly used fungicides can only inhibit it and cannot kill it; even increasing the dosage will only kill the straw mushroom mycelium. Therefore, prevention should be the main approach. The fundamental measure to control straw mushroom infection with Trichoderma is to keep the straw mushroom mycelium growing in a relatively favorable environment that is unsuitable for Trichoderma growth. If infection is found in straw mushroom, the temperature of the mushroom house should be lowered promptly and ventilation maintained, which can effectively control the onset of Trichoderma. If infection with Trichoderma occurs during the mycelium growth stage, injection of medicinal liquid can be adopted to inhibit the expansion of Trichoderma. Commonly used agents include 5% carbolic acid, 2% formaldehyde, 1:200 dilution of 50% carbendazim, 75% thiophanate-methyl, etc., or spreading a layer of lime on the infected area to control its spread.
