Why do yardlong beans only grow vines and not bloom

Yardlong beans are a common legume vegetable that produces pods in summer. In the south, planting begins in spring, and farming households basically all grow some, while some plant a certain scale at night to sell. But the most common problem when growing yardlong beans is that they only grow vines and simply will not bloom. If they do not bloom, they cannot set pods, there is no yield, or the yield is low. So why is this, and how should it be prevented, regulated, and improved? Let us take a look now!

I. Causes

Water and fertilizer nutrients are too abundant, causing the plant vines to grow wildly and excessively, so they are slow to enter reproductive growth and remain stuck in the vegetative growth stage, and therefore cannot bloom; planting in the open field too early, when the temperature is relatively low or a sudden late spring cold snap occurs, will inhibit growth, and similarly planting too late, when the flowering period encounters high temperatures, may also result in no flowers; using too much nitrogen fertilizer, when more phosphorus fertilizer should be applied, and spraying some growth regulators, such as Youma Leiguobao; or insufficient nutrients and water, with the planting soil too barren, so the plant has no nutrients to support flowering, and there may have been pests in the early stage, with too much pesticide used, causing phytotoxicity, so it cannot bloom.

II. Prevention and improvement

1. Fertilization

Fertilize during early growth, but do not use too much; enough for normal growth is sufficient. If excessive vine growth is seen, pinch the growing tips when needed, thin out part of the branches, and do not leave too many extending branches.

2. Temperature

Choose a suitable period for sowing, and sowing can only begin when the temperature is above 12 degrees. When seedlings emerge, the temperature should preferably be above 15 degrees. During the growth period, the temperature should preferably be between 18 and 28 degrees. Above 35 degrees growth is slow, and below 5 degrees growth stops. Therefore, when sowing, also roughly calculate what environment each stage will be in, and make it as suitable as possible.

3. Nutrition

Pay attention to nutrition in the early growth stage. Choosing fertile soil with high organic matter content for planting gives good nutrition. If the soil conditions are lacking, find ways to improve the planting field, such as digging out the original soil and using humus soil, mixing in river sand, peat, and the like to prepare planting nutrient soil. Spray Youma Leiguobao to regulate the hormone balance in the plant and help flowering.

4. Less pesticide

When preventing pests, pay attention: for those that can be trapped and killed or manually captured, try not to use pesticides. If pesticides are used, new types with less phytotoxicity can be used. Try not to use emulsifiable concentrates, as they cause relatively greater pollution, or do not use contact insecticides, as they are easily absorbed by plants.

Yardlong beans not blooming is not only due to too much fertilizer applied early, too much nitrogen fertilizer applied, or insufficient nutrition; or the direct effect of temperature. In addition, pesticides may have caused phytotoxicity. In fact, there may also be some other causes. In actual production, more experience should also be accumulated.
