Ginger storage methods

Ginger is a very important side dish ingredient in China, and it is grown on a very large area in the country. Ginger has very high nutritional value and is effective for treating various conditions such as migraines and gout. Ginger yields are also relatively high, and if it cannot all be sold after harvest, then it must be stored properly to avoid mold and spoilage that would hurt profits. So today I have brought you ginger storage methods, let's take a look!

1. Closed pile storage

Before closed pile storage, we first need to do a good job of selecting the ginger, keeping the good-quality ginger and piling it in a warehouse. Then cover the ginger with straw curtains and similar items, and prepare for storage. Build a small warehouse on the south-facing side of the warehouse, and be careful to plug the small gaps in the brick wall to prevent drafty and cold wind from getting in. The piled height of the ginger should not exceed 2 m, and appropriate reed ventilation tubes should be placed in the ginger pile to improve its air permeability. During closed pile storage, the gaps at the corners of the walls should be reduced as much as possible, while the middle can be left slightly looser.

2. Pit storage

For pit storage, first choose a good location; generally make sure the pit area has a relatively high groundwater level, and when digging, keep the depth at a level where water does not appear, generally no more than 1 m. Control the diameter and shape of the pit according to the storage quantity. Generally make sure one pit can store about 5000 jin. Place a bundle of rice straw in the center of the pit to promote ventilation in the ginger pit and also to allow temperature measurement. Then place the ginger neatly in the pit as appropriate; after laying one layer, put down a layer of ginger leaves, cover the ginger leaves with a layer of soil, and then as the temperature drops, cover with soil in layers.

3. Mud and sand burial

When using mud and sand burial, first build a small enclosure, with the height controlled at 80 cm and the width controlled at about 100 cm, and control the length according to actual conditions. Then spread a layer of mud and sand about 5 cm thick on the bottom, maintaining a water content of about 1/10. Then insert an appropriate number of ventilation tubes, select robust, good-quality ginger, first lay out a layer of ginger, and then spread a layer of mud. Keep piling until about 5 cm from the opening. Then cover it well with mud and sand to prevent the ginger from directly contacting the air.

4. Air-raid shelter storage

Air-raid shelter storage is actually quite similar to mud and sand burial; it also involves laying a layer of ginger and then a layer of sand. What is different, however, is that the ginger should be piled into a shape similar to a haystack. Keep the weight of each stack at about 4000 jin, then place a thin bamboo pole in the middle of the stack, keeping its diameter at about 10 cm, as a ventilation tool for the stack. It is also best to place a thermometer inside to measure the temperature. Then seal the stack well to prevent air leakage.

The above is a brief introduction to ginger storage methods. There are many ways to store ginger, and we should choose the storage method reasonably according to actual conditions. That is all for today's introduction. This article is for reference only, and I hope it can help everyone!
