Cilantro fertilization methods

Cilantro is one of the common vegetables in our lives. Because of its unique aroma, it is often used as a seasoning vegetable, and it has high nutritional value and medicinal value, capable of stimulating appetite, relieving depression, relieving pain and detoxifying, and it is widely grown in China. To grow cilantro so that it grows well and quickly, fertilization is indispensable, so how should cilantro be fertilized? Let's take a look.

1. Nutrient requirements

Cilantro, also known as coriander, requires 16 nutrient elements for its growth and development. Its plants are short, its growing period is relatively short, its root system goes deep into the soil, and the number of plants per unit area is relatively small, so it needs fertile soil and requires sufficient fertilizer and water. It prefers cool climate conditions. Among fertilizer needs, potassium fertilizer is the greatest, nitrogen fertilizer is next, and phosphorus fertilizer is the least, but throughout the growing period it needs a sufficient supply of nitrogen fertilizer. Nitrogen fertilizer deficiency will cause short plants and yellowing leaves, seriously affecting yield and quality. Cilantro needs less fertilizer in the early part of the growing period, and the fertilizer requirement gradually increases as it grows.

2. Base fertilizer

To ensure the nutrients needed by cilantro during the growing period, base fertilizer should be applied before planting according to the soil fertility conditions. The base fertilizer is generally farmyard manure or organic fertilizer with slow fertilizer effect. After the previous crop is harvested, shallowly hoe the stubble, apply 1500 kg of high-quality decomposed organic fertilizer and 40-60 kg of compound fertilizer per mu, spread them evenly on the ground, then plow 20 cm deep, mix the fertilizer and soil evenly, then prepare the land and make beds, ready for sowing.

3. Topdressing

Spring-sown cilantro generally needs topdressing three times during the growing period. The first time is after thinning seedlings combined with watering, applying 4-6 kg of compound fertilizer per mu; the second time is when cilantro is 8-9 cm tall, also combined with watering, applying 5-6 kg of compound fertilizer per mu; the third time is when the plant height is 12-14 cm, applying 10-15 cm of compound fertilizer per mu with water. Summer-sown cilantro has a short growing period and generally needs topdressing twice. The first time is at thinning seedlings combined with watering, applying 5-6 kg per mu; the second time is when the cilantro plant height is 7-8 cm, applying 10-13 kg of compound fertilizer per mu. Autumn-sown cilantro generally needs topdressing three times, with the fertilization time the same as for autumn sowing, and the fertilization amount determined according to specific conditions. Overwintering cilantro at 5-6 leaves is given 15-20 kg of 45% nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium compound fertilizer with watering; before freezing, 1000-1500 kg of decomposed human manure and urine fertilizer is applied with water; in the following spring, 10-15 kg of compound fertilizer is applied with the green-up water.
