Fertilization methods for Panax notoginseng

Panax notoginseng is one of the important medicinal herbs in China, with extremely high medicinal and health value, relatively high economic benefits, and it is grown in a wide range of regions. It requires large amounts of nutrients during growth, so reasonable fertilization is extremely important when planting. So how should Panax notoginseng be fertilized? Let's take a look at the detailed introduction.

1. Nutrient requirement patterns

The nutrient demand of Panax notoginseng during growth is lower than that of other crops. Among the conventional nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium fertilizers, its demand for potassium is the highest, far exceeding that of other crops, while its demand for phosphorus is relatively low. Its fertilizer requirements also differ across different growth stages. August to October is the peak period for nutrient uptake by Panax notoginseng. In December, its demand for phosphate fertilizer is at its highest. Plants aged 2-3 years have a relatively large demand for fertilizer during the flowering and fruiting stage, accounting for more than half of the annual fertilizer application.

2. Fertilization principles

The fertilization principle for Panax notoginseng is to focus on base fertilizer, supplemented by topdressing, with various fertilizers and nutrients combined with each other, while timely spraying of foliar fertilizer. To cultivate high-quality Panax notoginseng, it is essential to mainly use farmyard manure, combined with a small amount of nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium compound fertilizer. Generally, the ratio of the three is best at 2:1:3. Attention should be paid to the application of nitrogen fertilizer. Excessive nitrogen fertilizer application will cause a decline in the quality of Panax notoginseng, while too little potassium fertilizer will lead to low yield and reduced returns.

3. Fertilization methods

Fertilization of Panax notoginseng is mainly based on base fertilizer. Generally, according to the soil fertility conditions, apply 2500-4000 kg of farmyard manure per mu, combined with 100 kg of superphosphate and 10-15 kg of potassium sulfate. It should be noted that the farmyard manure must be completely decomposed, otherwise it is unfavorable for seedling growth and may even cause mass death of seedlings. During the year, apply decomposed farmyard manure 2-3 times as topdressing, with each application of 2000-2500 kg per mu, and compound fertilizer 2-3 times, with each application of 10-15 kg per mu, to promote plant growth. In addition, a 0.2% concentration of potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution or other low-concentration trace element fertilizers can be sprayed at appropriate times.
