How to Grow Garlic? Remember These Key Points

Edible Gardening 0 views
Key Points for Growing Garlic

Garlic growing actually had a peak period before, when it was called "Suan Ni Hen" (garlic is ruthless). At that time, garlic in the market was very good in both sales volume and price. Now the price of garlic in the market is not very expensive, but the demand is still relatively large, and many dishes require garlic. So what points need attention during the garlic growing process? Let's take a look at the content the editor has put together for everyone below.

1. Time

Garlic must be planted at the right time, because only when planted at the right time will garlic grow normally. If the planting time is improper, then garlic generally will only grow leaves, and the underground bulbs will not grow. The suitable time for planting garlic is from late September to early October each year, so when planting garlic we must grasp this time period well.

2. Density

Scientific planting density is very beneficial to the yield and quality of garlic, so how much garlic can be planted in one mu of land? What density is better for planting? Generally, in order to reasonably use land resources while also effectively improving the yield and quality of garlic, one mu of land can generally plant twenty thousand garlic plants. That is to say, the row spacing for planting garlic is about twenty cm or so, and the plant spacing is about fifteen cm or so.

3. Temperature

Garlic has strong cold resistance and can grow even in an environment of minus ten degrees, but this does not mean it can grow very well in such an environment. In fact, the most suitable temperature for garlic growth is between fifteen and twenty-five degrees. If garlic is to germinate, the best temperature is between fourteen and twenty degrees, while the optimal temperature for seedling growth is fifteen to twenty degrees. The optimal temperature for garlic scape growth is twenty degrees, while the optimal temperature for underground bulb growth is between twenty and twenty-five degrees. The temperature cannot be too high or too low, otherwise it will affect the enlargement of the garlic underground bulbs.

4. Humidity

Garlic also has relatively strong drought resistance, and its roots have a weak ability to absorb water, so during the garlic growing process, especially at the seedling stage, we should keep the soil in the planting area moist. When it reaches the growth stage of the underground bulbs, the demand for water will be relatively greater. During this period we should water frequently, but the water should not be too much, and we must ensure that the underground bulbs will not rot. If there is too much water, it will cause the underground bulbs to rot, while if there is too little water, the garlic cloves will become loose, and this has a very large impact on the yield and quality of garlic.

5. Nutrients

If you want high yield and high quality garlic, then the reasonable supply of nutrients is key. Garlic has the characteristic of liking fertilizer, so its growth actually has a relatively large demand for fertilizer. During the garlic growing process, the main part is farmyard manure, generally with a dosage of as high as three to four thousand jin per mu, followed by nitrogen fertilizer, generally with a dosage of about twenty jin, and then phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, generally about fifteen jin. Of course, if during the enlargement of the garlic underground bulbs the branches and leaves turn yellow, we also need to appropriately spray borax.

The several issues that need attention in garlic growing have been introduced here by the editor. Everyone must grasp these points well during the planting process, so that you can grow higher-quality garlic.
