Management Techniques for Rice at the Green-Returning Stage

After rice is transplanted, its leaves turn from green to yellow, and then from yellow back to green. This process is called the green-returning stage. This stage determines the number of panicles and lays the foundation for the development of panicle grains, making it extremely important. So how should rice be managed during the green-returning stage? Let's take a look at the detailed introduction below.

1. Water level management

After rice is transplanted, shallow water should be maintained to prevent high temperatures from damaging the seedlings and to improve the survival rate. If the water layer is too deep, the new roots of the seedlings will not grow, and the seedlings can easily lose balance in the water, which is not conducive to their roots penetrating downward and can also cause floating seedlings; in severe cases, stiff seedlings may form. Generally, after transplanting, maintaining a shallow water layer of 2-3 cm can avoid rapid water evaporation caused by high temperatures affecting seedling survival; it can also raise ground temperature and moisture, increase oxygen content, promote root growth, and shorten the green-returning time.

2. Topdressing green-returning fertilizer

According to the base fertilizer and the growth condition of the seedlings, 5-7 days after transplanting, 10-15 days' worth of urea can be topdressed per mu, which can promote seedling growth, speed up their green returning, make the leaves grow dark green, improve leaf photosynthesis, and synthesize more nutrients. For alkaline soil, ammonium sulfate can be chosen to adjust the pH and promote root growth.

3. Timely weed control

Before rice is planted, the field should be treated with closed weeding. 5-7 days after transplanting, agents such as butachlor plus bensulfuron, ethoxysulfuron, and benzothiazole can be mixed evenly with green-returning fertilizer, then mixed with fine sand or fine soil and spread promptly. The weeding effect is relatively good. Before spreading, the residue and floating matter in the field should be removed cleanly to avoid affecting the diffusion of the agent and reducing its efficacy. At the same time, keep water for about one week to improve the efficacy.

4. Pest and disease control

After rice transplanting, the temperature is not high, and cloudy and rainy weather is also relatively frequent, while the resistance of the seedlings is weak, making them highly susceptible to disease. Therefore, in combination with spreading green-returning fertilizer, 6-8 jin of 0.5% clothianidin granules per mu can be spread once, which can provide excellent disease prevention. After spreading, keep shallow water for one week to ensure efficacy and also promote seedling growth. In addition, the green-returning stage of rice is the main period of thrips damage, and agents such as carbosulfan, chlorpyrifos, or imidacloprid can be sprayed for control.
