What is the rice greening stage? Greening management techniques and fertilization timing
After rice is transplanted, the leaves turn from green to yellow, and then from yellow back to green; this process is called the greening stage. This period determines the number of panicles and lays the foundation for the development of grains per panicle, so it is extremely important. So how should rice be managed during the greening stage? Let's take a look at the detailed introduction below.
1. Water level management
After rice is transplanted, keep shallow water to prevent high temperatures from damaging the seedlings and to improve the survival rate. If the water layer is too deep, the new roots of the seedlings cannot grow, and the seedlings can easily lose balance in the water, which is not conducive to the roots penetrating downward and can also cause floating seedlings; in severe cases, stiff seedlings form. Generally, maintaining a shallow water layer of 2-3 cm after transplanting can prevent rapid water evaporation at high temperatures from affecting survival, and can also raise soil temperature and moisture, increase oxygen content, promote root growth, and shorten the greening time.
2. Topdressing greening fertilizer
According to the base fertilizer and the growth condition of the seedlings, 5-7 days after transplanting, 10-15 days of urea can be topdressed per mu to promote seedling growth, speed up greening, make the leaves grow dark green, improve leaf photosynthesis, and synthesize more nutrients. For alkaline soil, ammonium sulfate can be chosen to adjust the pH and promote root growth.
3. Timely weed control
Before rice is planted, the field must be closed for weed control. 5-7 days after transplanting, choose agents such as bensulfuron-methyl and butachlor, ethoxysulfuron, and benzothiazolinone mixed evenly with the greening fertilizer, then mix with fine sand or fine soil and broadcast promptly; the weed control effect is good. Before broadcasting, remove debris and floating matter from the field to avoid affecting the spread of the agent and reducing efficacy, and keep water for about one week to improve efficacy.
4. Pest and disease control
After rice transplanting, the temperature is not high, cloudy and rainy weather is also relatively frequent, and the resistance of the seedlings is weak, making them highly susceptible to disease. Therefore, together with broadcasting the greening fertilizer, 6-8 jin of 0.5% clothianidin granules can be broadcast once per mu, which can prevent disease very well. After broadcasting, keep shallow water for one week to ensure efficacy and also promote seedling growth. In addition, the rice greening stage is the main period of thrips damage, and pesticides such as carbosulfan or chlorpyrifos or imidacloprid can be sprayed for control.
