Identification of Rice Phytotoxicity Symptoms and Control Methods
In the process of rice cultivation, the use of pesticides is indispensable, but if pesticides are used improperly, phytotoxicity will occur, causing poor growth of rice, and in severe cases leading to the death of rice and a total loss of harvest, causing huge losses to farmers. So what are the symptoms of rice phytotoxicity? How should it be controlled? Let's take a look.

1. Symptoms of phytotoxicity
Rice phytotoxicity is once divided into acute and chronic. Acute phytotoxicity generally shows symptoms such as spots, scorching, wilting and deformity 2 days after spraying; while chronic phytotoxicity develops more slowly, generally manifesting as slow growth, reduced tillering and delayed grain setting, leading to a decline in yield. Among these symptoms, wilting is mainly caused by herbicides; growth deformities mostly occur in the stems, leaves and roots of rice, with common ones being leaf curling, clustered growth and root swelling; common spots include brown spots and yellow spots; growth stagnation refers to the normal growth of rice being inhibited, showing the phenomenon of slow growth.
2. Causes of phytotoxicity
First, improper mixing of pesticides leads to excessively high pesticide concentration, and phytotoxicity is extremely likely to occur during high-temperature periods; second, spraying pesticides without following regulations, which is relatively common; third, misuse of pesticides causing phytotoxicity, for example, some farmers use herbicides as insecticides, and the next day after spraying, green wilt appears, causing the stem base to turn brown and die; fourth, pollution, as many people, after using pesticides, do not dispose of the residual chemicals according to regulations and instead throw them away or dump them at will, and with rainwater washing they flow into the seedling fields, causing phytotoxicity in the seedlings; and improper operation, as many farmers, when spraying herbicides, spray them directly onto the rice, causing phytotoxicity.
3. Control methods
When phytotoxicity occurs in rice, remedial measures should be taken according to the different symptoms. If symptoms such as phytotoxic spots, scorched areas or plant yellowing appear, shallow water should be kept in the field, and more fertilizer should be applied to supplement the nutrients needed by the rice so that it can return to normal. If a herbicide was sprayed by mistake, clean water should be sprayed immediately, and the water should be changed repeatedly to reduce the pesticide spots, and then a small amount of organic fertilizer should be applied to promote its recovery to normal. If it is phytotoxicity from 2,4-D, gibberellin or natural brassin should be sprayed promptly for remediation, which will play a role in alleviating the phytotoxicity.
