How should Chinese toon be propagated

Chinese toon is a very common wild vegetable, highly popular in China and enjoying a large market. The leaves of Chinese toon are edible and have relatively high nutritional value. Today, Chinese toon is basically cultivated in all parts of China, and how to propagate it when planting is a problem we must all pay attention to. So how should we propagate it when planting? Below, the editor brings you the propagation methods of Chinese toon. Let's take a look!

1. Seed propagation

Seed propagation is the most common method of raising Chinese toon seedlings, and also the method with the best seedling-raising results. Before sowing, we must first soak the seeds in warm water at about 25°C for about 10 hours. Then remove them, wash them clean, and place them in a germination bag to carry out germination work. The germination bag should be kept at a temperature of about 25°C, and once more than half of the seeds have sprouted white, they are ready for sowing. The sowing time for Chinese toon seeds is generally around Qingming Festival, and under normal management, they can be transplanted and planted out by autumn. After sowing, management should be strengthened to prevent diseases such as root rot from threatening the growth of Chinese toon.

2. Division propagation

For division propagation, we must first select a robustly growing Chinese toon tree free of pests and diseases as the mother plant. Then dig a trench in the ground at the base of the mother plant to expose the roots, and select thick, strongly growing root buds with a diameter of about 1 cm as the division roots. When cutting the roots, we must be careful not to damage the large root system, so as to avoid affecting the growth of the mother plant. The cut surfaces of the severed roots must be smooth, and after cutting the roots, the cut surfaces on the mother plant should be properly disinfected. Then apply an appropriate amount of organic fertilizer to promote root healing and plant growth. Then plant the root buds at the proper time, strengthen fertilizer and water management, promote the growth of the root buds, and under normal management, about three new sprouting seedlings can be produced each year.

3. Root cutting propagation

For root cutting propagation, first select roots with a diameter of about 0.6-0.9 cm, then cut them into cuttings of about 12 cm. Then, according to the thickness of the roots, cut the thick end flat and make an oblique cut at the thin end as the insertion opening. Then before insertion, soak them in a solution such as butyric acid for about 30 minutes. After soaking, insert the cuttings into the seedbed. Keep the temperature at about 28°C and the humidity at about 78%. Then cover with a layer of plastic film to improve the soil's ability to retain heat and moisture. After sprouting, keep no more than one bud per cutting, and then transplant when the seedlings grow to about 31 cm.

4. Cutting propagation

Cutting propagation is also a common propagation method for Chinese toon, usually carried out around Qingming Festival in spring. First, we must select a robustly growing mother plant, then choose thick current-year branches that have not yet fully lignified. Cut them into pieces of about 15 cm, then disinfect the cuttings and promote rooting by soaking the cuttings in a solution such as butyric acid for about 45 minutes. Then dip the cut end in rooting agent, which can effectively increase the rooting rate of the cuttings. After the preparatory work is done, insert the cuttings into the seedbed and strengthen management.

The above is a brief introduction to how Chinese toon is propagated. There are many propagation methods for Chinese toon. We should reasonably choose the propagation method for Chinese toon according to the actual situation. That is all for today's introduction.
