When it comes to how to eat during a diet, everyone probably agrees on one saying: don't eat meat, eat more vegetables! But after you stick with it for a while, some people start to wonder: why have I eaten a lot of vegetables, yet my weight hasn't changed, or I've even gained weight? That's very likely because you haven't been eating the right vegetables.

Though everyone knows how to eat vegetables, there really are quite a few misunderstandings when it comes to eating them right, eating them well and eating them to lose weight. Take a quick look and see whether you often eat these kinds of vegetables:

Potato

If any vegetable is misunderstood, it has to be the potato. It is the world's fourth-largest food crop, and potatoes have a carbohydrate content of 17.2%, while the vast majority of vegetables have a carbohydrate content below 5%, and leafy green vegetables are even lower. On top of that, potatoes themselves absorb oil very easily, so as someone trying to lose weight, you'd better be careful.

Peas

Although peas are a legume vegetable, their energy is higher than many staple foods. 100g of pea seeds contains 313 kcal of energy, making them a high-energy food. Though tasty, it is recommended not to eat too much, otherwise it can easily cause obesity!

Lotus root

Don't think lotus root looks tender and watery, but actually its starch content is very high. Like potatoes, it can replace staple foods, so if there is lotus root among the side dishes, ladies, eat a bit less rice.

Edamame

Edamame is a fresh-eating legume vegetable. Besides having the nutritional value of soybeans, its content of various vitamins and minerals is also very high. However, it is a high-fat vegetable. Every 100 grams of edamame has about 131 kcal of calories, but its protein and dietary fiber content are both very rich. The calories in 10 edamame beans take 7 minutes of walking to burn off. Eating some in moderation is fine, but eat too many and you may get bloating and gain weight.

Chinese yam

The fat content of Chinese yam is very low. Many people use Chinese yam as one of the main foods for weight loss, but its carbohydrate content is much higher than other vegetables. If you eat Chinese yam, be sure to remember to eat two fewer bites of rice.

Recommended fruits and vegetables for weight loss:

Cherry tomatoes, lemons, strawberries, pineapple, mango, peaches, apples, cucumber, kelp, winter melon, etc., are especially suitable for people who are trying to lose weight.
