Detailed Guide to the Control of Major Diseases of Garlic Sprouts
Garlic sprouts are a familiar vegetable. They are the seedlings that grow from garlic to a certain stage, with the pungent, spicy taste of garlic. They are nutritious and also help with digestion, and can prevent diseases such as influenza and enteritis. However, during cultivation they are attacked by many kinds of diseases, and if not controlled in time, these can cause huge losses. Let's take a look together below at the control techniques for common diseases of garlic sprouts.

1. Purple blotch
It mainly harms the leaves. When the disease occurs, it always starts at the leaf tip and the flower stalk, and within a short time spreads to the lower part, producing small white sunken spots with a slightly purple center, which gradually expand into yellow-brown elliptical lesions. When humidity is high, black mold-like material appears on the lesions; these are the conidia of the pathogen. The lesions mostly show concentric rings and break off very easily.
Control method: In the early stage of the disease, sprays such as chlorothalonil, iprodione, and ethylicin can be applied for control, spraying once every 7-10 days, for 3-4 consecutive sprays, giving a good control effect.
2. Leaf blight
This disease is a fungal disease. It mainly harms the leaves. In the early stage, it starts from the leaf tip and gradually develops toward the leaf stem, and spreads from the lower part of the plant upward. When it occurs, white round spots appear, gradually expanding into gray-brown, elliptical, irregular lesions, and in severe cases the leaves of the whole plant wither and die. In the later stage, black mold-like material also appears on the diseased areas, scattered with small black grains.
Control method: After the plant is infected, treat it promptly to avoid the disease spreading. Carbendazim can be sprayed once every 7 days. Zineb or chlorothalonil can also be sprayed, likewise once every 7 days, for 2-3 consecutive times, with a good effect.
3. Soft rot
This is a bacterial disease, and it is very easily triggered in low-temperature, high-humidity environments. It first develops at the leaf margin or leaf veins, forming yellow-white streaks along the leaf margin and veins that can run through the entire leaf. When humidity is high, the lesions become yellow-brown and soft-rotten, with a foul odor, and the leaves completely lose their photosynthetic function. It generally occurs on the basal leaves and spreads upward to the leaves, and in severe cases causes the whole plant to turn yellow and die.
Control method: This disease mainly occurs because insect pests wound the leaves, allowing the pathogen to invade, or because the pests carry the pathogen and directly transmit the disease. Therefore, to control soft rot, pest control is very important. In the early period, attention should be paid to controlling underground pests such as wireworms and mole crickets, and at the seedling stage attention should be paid to root maggots and flea beetles. When the disease occurs, agricultural streptomycin or amobam can be sprayed once a week, for 2-3 consecutive sprays depending on the condition, with a good effect.
