The author recently learned from the Bokun Agricultural Research Institute in Yixing City, Jiangsu Province: the institute, in cooperation with the China National Rice Research Institute's National Rice Improvement Center and other units, has achieved a breakthrough in the work of "breeding new japonica rice varieties with multiple resistance, high yield and high quality," successfully breeding a group of high-yield, high-quality new japonica rice lines such as 4701 and 4714 that are resistant to brown planthopper, rice blast and other pests and diseases.

It is reported that the bred high-yield, high-quality new japonica rice lines combine genes for resistance to brown planthopper, white-backed planthopper, rice blast and stripe leaf blight, as well as specific genes for high yield and high quality. Tests and detection by the China National Rice Research Institute's National Rice Improvement Center and the Department of Plant Protection of the College of Agriculture at Yangzhou University show that these high-quality new japonica rice lines have obvious resistance to brown planthopper, rice blast and other pests and diseases.
