How to plant stringy stonecrop? Mastering the correct method is key
Stringy stonecrop (Sedum sarmentosum) is a perennial herbaceous plant in the Crassulaceae family. The whole plant can be used as medicine, and it has the effects of clearing heat and detoxifying, removing dampness and reducing swelling. In traditional Chinese medicine, it is mainly used to treat damp-heat jaundice, gonorrhea, sore throat, eczema, and mouth ulcers. At present, it can be planted in most areas of our country, such as Fujian, Guizhou, Hunan, Zhejiang, and so on. So today let us learn about the planting techniques for stringy stonecrop.
1. Soil improvement
Stringy stonecrop has the characteristics of liking warmth, liking moisture, strong adaptability, cold resistance, tolerance to poor soil, and slight drought tolerance. Generally, we choose to plant it in a semi-shaded area with loose soil and good drainage. After choosing the planting site, deep plow at least 20 cm or more, expose the soil to the sun, apply about 3,000 jin of barnyard manure and turn it into the soil, break it up finely and level it, open furrows and make beds, and prepare for planting.
2. Scientific propagation
There are also several propagation methods for stringy stonecrop, such as seed propagation, cutting propagation, and division propagation, but the ones most commonly used at present are seed propagation and division propagation. Seed propagation can be done throughout the year, cutting propagation is best from early May to late August, and division propagation is between April and September each year. When planting, pay attention to the planting spacing; generally a row spacing of 10 cm and a plant spacing of about 5 cm is sufficient.
3. Field management
Under normal circumstances, stringy stonecrop will survive about one week to one month after planting. Of course, the time it takes to survive also differs depending on the planting method. During the growth of stringy stonecrop, we should pay attention to cultivating and weeding, otherwise weeds will absorb nutrients and affect the growth of stringy stonecrop. At the same time, stringy stonecrop needs sufficient water. When there is little rain, water it in time, and after each watering, carry out cultivation and loosening of the soil together. This can prevent the soil from becoming compacted and affecting soil permeability. When loosening the soil, be careful to cultivate as shallowly as possible so as not to damage the roots of stringy stonecrop. Finally, topdressing should be done in time. Generally, topdressing is done once about half a month after planting, mainly with nitrogen fertilizer. After that, topdressing needs to be carried out according to the growth condition of stringy stonecrop, and generally applying it once a month is sufficient.
4. Disease control
Although stringy stonecrop has strong resistance, strong adaptability to the environment, and is very simple to plant, we still need to pay attention to preventing the occurrence of diseases during the planting process. What is currently known is that the diseases stringy stonecrop commonly suffers from are gray mold, anthracnose, powdery mildew, and so on. So in the early stage of disease occurrence, we can use carbendazim, zineb, and chlorothalonil respectively for spraying prevention.
Many people may not know about stringy stonecrop, because it is also relatively rarely used among Chinese medicinal materials. However, it is also a succulent plant with high ornamental value, and its appearance is also very beautiful. It is very suitable for home cultivation, and this is also a starting point for the planting prospects of stringy stonecrop. That is all for today's sharing by the editor.
