Conditions for the formation of flower shiitake

Flower shiitake is the star among mushrooms, a new up-and-coming edible fungus developed in modern times. It is deeply loved by consumers for its effects such as being nutrient-rich, preventing disease, promoting health, and delaying aging. It is actually a deformed mushroom of shiitake; when shiitake mushrooms fruit, natural conditions such as temperature, humidity, light, and ventilation are adjusted to change the normal growth of shiitake and cause it to form flower shiitake. So what are the conditions for the formation of flower shiitake? Let's take a look together.

1. Low humidity

The formation of flower shiitake is mainly caused by humidity. During the growth and development of young mushrooms, the mushroom sticks lack water and the air is dry, causing the cells of the mushroom cap to stop growing while the cells of the mushroom flesh continue to grow slowly. Therefore, over time, the surface layer bursts open from expansion and exposes the white mushroom flesh. As time passes, the cracks deepen, thus forming flower shiitake. So if you want to form flower shiitake, when the mushroom buds grow to 2-3 cm thick, you must strengthen humidity management. Keeping humidity within 70% gives a very high probability of forming flower shiitake.

2. Low temperature

Low temperature is also an important factor in the formation of flower shiitake. At a temperature of 5-15°C, shiitake grows extremely slowly, resulting in thicker mushroom flesh and laying the foundation for the formation of flower shiitake. If the temperature is too high, shiitake grows faster, but the mushroom flesh is thinner. Even if other conditions for flower shiitake formation are present, it will not form flower shiitake, and it is also very prone to drying out. The nutritional value of flower shiitake is higher than that of shiitake because in a low-temperature environment more nutrients are deposited. Generally, under low temperature, it takes about one month from mushroom bud to fully grown flower shiitake.

3. Temperature difference

The formation of flower shiitake cannot be separated from temperature difference. The maximum growth temperature should be controlled at 18-22°C, and the minimum at 5°C. Within this range, regulate it artificially and try to widen the temperature difference as much as possible to promote the production of a large number of mushroom buds. In a low-temperature, low-humidity environment, plus the stimulation of temperature difference, the cells of the mushroom cap will shrink from drying, while the cells of the mushroom flesh will begin to multiply, ultimately causing the mushroom cap to crack and form patterns.

4. Light

Light also has a certain influence on the formation of flower shiitake. Flower shiitake generally needs to grow in an environment with sufficient light. The intensity of light affects the depth of the color of the flower shiitake patterns. In an environment with sufficient light, the patterns of flower shiitake are snow-white and the quality is better; while in an environment with insufficient light, its patterns are milky white, yellowish white, or tea brown, and the quality is average.
