What should be noted when planting Aucklandia lappa?

Aucklandia lappa is a perennial herb in the Asteraceae family and is also a type of traditional Chinese medicinal herb. It is currently mainly distributed in Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou and other places in China. Aucklandia lappa can be propagated both sexually and asexually. So today we are mainly going to learn about some of the precautions to take during the planting process of Aucklandia lappa. If you are interested, you can keep reading the content below with the editor.

1. Soil

Aucklandia lappa has certain requirements for the soil of the planting site. Generally, it is best to choose land whose previous crop was corn, Codonopsis, etc. Next, the planting site should have good drainage and permeability, and the soil should be rich in humus. Black soil with sufficient soil fertility is best. In order to prevent the aroma of the Aucklandia lappa roots from attracting underground pests, we need to apply an appropriate amount of sheep manure and barnyard manure, and make the land into high ridges.

2. Seeds

If Aucklandia lappa is planted by seed propagation, then we need to treat the seeds so as to ensure their emergence rate and later survival rate. Before sowing, we need to soak the seeds in warm water at about 30 degrees for about 24 hours, then select plump seeds without impurities. After drying them in the shade, mix the seeds with chemicals and then sow them.

3. Seedling establishment

After Aucklandia lappa seedlings emerge, what we need to do is establish the seedlings. Generally, when the Aucklandia lappa seedlings grow to about 8 to 10 cm, we need to transplant the seedlings and fill in gaps and thin the seedlings. When planting, each planting hole needs to have 2 seedlings placed in it, and the planting amount per mu is about 15,000 plants.

4. Bud removal

The growth cycle of Aucklandia lappa is about two years, which means it will bloom after two years. So to avoid the loss of nutrients, allow nutrients to be supplied in a concentrated way, promote root growth, and increase the yield of Aucklandia lappa, we need to remove its flower buds and flower buds when it blooms. But note that those used for seed retention should not have their flower buds removed; for the rest, the flower buds should be removed completely.

5. Fertilizer and water

Aucklandia lappa likes fertilizer and has a relatively large demand for nutrients, so reasonable topdressing should be carried out during the planting process. It also does not have high requirements for fertilizer types; generally, farmyard manure, organic fertilizer, and chemical fertilizer can all be used. But we still need to pay attention to some matters, for example, farmyard manure is best as manure and urine, plant ash, and cake fertilizer; chemical fertilizer is best as phosphate fertilizer and urea, and after fertilizing, irrigation should be carried out to avoid burning the seedlings. Finally, what we need to pay attention to is the watering of Aucklandia lappa. Watering especially in spring is more conducive to the growth of Aucklandia lappa, so we should irrigate reasonably, but also control the amount of watering. Next, during the rainy season, drainage should also be carried out in time. If the field humidity is too high, it will cause the roots of Aucklandia lappa to rot, causing irreparable losses.

Aucklandia lappa is not only a medicinal material, but its ornamental value is also very high, so its use value and economic value in the market are also relatively high. There are also many issues we need to pay attention to during the planting process, but these few shared with everyone by the editor are places that are easily overlooked or prone to misunderstandings during the planting process. Everyone can read and understand them carefully.
