Qingshu No. 2 Potato Variety Introduction and Characteristics
Variety source: Bred in 1992 by the Crop Institute of the Qinghai Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences from a Gaoyuan No. 4/Mira (Magura) combination (originally 92-32-8). In November 1999, it was approved by the Qinghai Provincial Crop Variety Approval Committee and named Qingshu No. 2. Yield performance: in the Qinghai provincial regional trial, its yield ranked No. 1 across 5 sites over 2 years. In 1997, the average yield was 33,197.55 kg/ha, 21.1% higher than the control Hushu 202; in 1998, 37,467.0 kg/ha, an increase of 91.3%. In the production trial, the average yield in 1997 was 45,544.5 kg/ha, 44.8% higher than the control Qingshu 169; in 1998, the increase was 36.4%-90.5%, 53.6% higher than Hushu 202, and 57% higher than Xiazha 65. In 1998, 1.73 ha was planted in Boyuan County, with an average yield of 62,880.0 kg/ha, and the highest reaching 71,236.5 kg/ha, 90.54% higher than the control Qingshu 168. Characteristics: The growth period is 120 days, making it a late-maturing variety. The plant type is erect, with a lush plant cluster. Growth vigor is strong. Plant height is 90 cm. Stem diameter is 1 cm, the number of main stems is 2-3, and branching is few. Leaf color is dark green. Corolla is light purple. Natural berry formation is low. The stem is green. Tubers are round. The skin is smooth, white-skinned and white-fleshed, with tight texture and no hollow heart. Eyes are relatively shallow. Tuber set is concentrated. Dormancy is long, and it stores well. Per plant, 4.5-5.1 tubers are set, yielding 0.85-0.91 kg. Single tuber weight is 0.1 kg. Tubers contain 22.86%-25.83% starch, vitamin C 20.92 mg/100 g, crude protein 1.66%, and reducing sugar 0.6267%. Steamed food taste is good. It is relatively drought-tolerant, cold-tolerant, and saline-alkali tolerant, with wide adaptability. It is resistant to late blight, ring rot, blackleg, mosaic and leafroll virus diseases, and slightly susceptible to early blight. Under small-area planting, the general yield is 37,500-45,000 kg/ha; on semi-shallow and semi-lean mountain land, the yield is 30,000-37,500 kg/ha, with the highest reaching 62,880 kg/ha. Cultivation points: Choose plots with deep, fertile, loose soil, good aeration, and moderate water retention and permeability. Base fertilizer should mainly be farmyard manure, combined with additional N, P, and K chemical fertilizers. The suitable sowing period is early to mid-April. Sowing rate is 150-200 kg/667 sq m. Plant spacing is 25-30 cm, row spacing is 70 cm; wide-narrow row planting can also be used, with wide rows 80-100 cm and narrow rows 25-30 cm. Intercropping with broad bean is also possible. It is suitable for planting in the northern single-cropping region, especially for promotion in remote areas with convenient transportation and potato processing, where production and sales match well and greater economic benefits can be created. It is also suitable for planting in irrigated land and river-irrigated areas of agricultural regions at altitudes of 1,600-3,000 m, as well as in mid- and high-elevation areas.
