Rice "indica-glutinous intercropping" refers to a configuration method for cultivating hybrid indica rice and glutinous rice, that is, selecting medium-stem hybrid indica rice and tall-stem glutinous rice varieties, and using the wide rows within the wide-narrow row arrangement of hybrid indica rice to plant additional single rows of glutinous rice at a certain band width, row ratio and width, forming a composite of hybrid indica rice and glutinous rice within the same field. Based on the principles of three-dimensional agriculture, it uses the characteristics of different rice varieties, different maturity periods and different plant heights for intercropping cultivation, so that temperature and light resources are utilized at multiple levels, increasing photosynthetic area and the accumulation of photosynthetic products, and raising rice yield. It is a practical new yield-increasing technique.

(1) Main advantages of indica-glutinous intercropping technology

1. Increased rice yield. Test results show that on the basis of large-area planting density, indica-glutinous intercropping, due to increased density and multi-layered three-dimensional utilization, can increase rice yield by 46.5 kg per mu; after deducting the effect of increased density, it can still achieve a net increase of 15.5 kg of rice per mu. Large-area typical comparative survey results show that the two items of indica-glutinous intercropping combined can increase yield by about 28 kg/mu compared with ordinary hybrid indica rice monoculture, and by about 110 kg compared with conventional glutinous rice monoculture fields.

2. Increased income. Glutinous rice is about 15% higher in price than ordinary hybrid medium indica rice; with both increased yield and increased income, the two items combined can increase output value by 50 yuan per mu and increase net income by 35 yuan.

3. It overcomes the problems that glutinous rice monoculture is susceptible to disease and has low per-unit yield, and that high-quality hybrid indica rice is difficult to promote because of low yield under monoculture, while enriching market supply.

4. It standardizes and improves the transplanting technology of hybrid medium rice. Intercropped fields use semi-dry or wide-narrow row transplanting, and their cultivation technology is relatively standardized. In ordinary fields, intercropped rice is planted in rows by marking lines or stretching ropes to open beds, and the transplanting density is increased, promoting the extension and application of standardized rice cultivation technology.

(2) Main cultivation technical measures

1. Select good varieties. Make a good pairing of the main crop and intercrop varieties. For hybrid rice, choose combinations with moderate plant height, strong adaptability, high yield and good grain quality, such as Zhunliangyou 527 and Jinyou 725; for the intercropped glutinous rice, it is advisable to choose varieties with hard stems and lodging resistance, large panicles and many grains, and excellent quality, such as Nuoyou No. 1 and Jingnuo No. 1.

2. Rational planting. Use semi-dry wide-narrow row planting or wide-row narrow-plant planting, and plant hybrid rice as double plants, with one row of high-quality glutinous rice planted every 4 rows (plant spacing 1.5-2 chi, 1200-1500 hills interplanted per mu); conventional glutinous rice is planted 4-6 plants per hill, and hybrid glutinous rice is planted 2 plants per hill.

3. Scientific fertilization. Use rice-specific fertilizer as base fertilizer, applying 40-50 kg per mu. At the tillering stage, apply 8-10 kg of urea per mu; at the panicle stage, use 100-150 g of Libaoduo per mu mixed with 50-60 kg of water as a panicle fertilizer for foliar spraying.

4. Strengthen integrated control of diseases, insects, and weeds.

5. Other supporting technical points for indica-glutinous intercropping. (1) Sow hybrid indica rice and glutinous rice at the same time, and transplant at the same time. (2) Carry out chemical seed treatment before sowing. (3) Harvest glutinous rice or hybrid rice at the appropriate time, and ratoon rice may be retained. (4) Other measures are the same as the management of the main crop hybrid medium rice.
