Introduction to the Characteristics of the Rice Variety K You 926
The hybrid rice K You 926 was developed in 1993 by the Rice and Sorghum Research Institute of the Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences by crossing K17A (already identified) bred by the institute with Luhui 926. In 1995, it was jointly introduced to our city by the Chongqing Agricultural Technology Extension Station and the Chongqing Seed Station.
In the three years 1996, 1998, and 1999, the average yield in the mid-season rice plus ratoon rice variety trials was 672.53 Kg per mu, a 3.36% increase over the control Shanyou 63. From 1995 to 1999, across 14 districts and counties (cities) including Jiangjin, Changshou, Qijiang, and Jiulongpo District in our city, a total of 5,300 mu was demonstrated. The mid-season rice yield was slightly lower than that of Shanyou 63, the ratoon rice yield increased significantly, and the combined two-season yield was higher than that of Shanyou 63.
The whole growth period of K You 926 is 1-3 days shorter than that of Shanyou 63. The plant height is about 110 cm, the plant type is compact, the main stem has a total of 16 leaves, the panicle length is about 25 cm, the average number of grains per panicle is about 130, the seed-setting rate is about 85%, the 1,000-grain weight is 29 grams, and the ratooning ability is relatively strong. The glume tip is awnless and the glume tip is red. The late-stage ripening color is good, with no secondary grain filling. According to testing by the Rice and Rice Products Quality Supervision and Inspection Testing Center of the Ministry of Agriculture, the brown rice rate, milled rice rate, grain length, alkali spreading value, amylose content, protein, length ratio, and gel consistency reached the standards for high-quality rice, while the chalkiness rate was 44%, the chalkiness degree was 8.1%, and the transparency was grade 3. In the rice eating-quality evaluation of Chongqing, the cooked rice was transparent and glossy white, fragrant and soft, with good palatability, and the overall evaluation of rice quality was relatively good. It is relatively resistant to rice blast and slightly susceptible to sheath blight.
This variety belongs to the medium indica late-maturing panicle type, with moderate tillering ability. The seeding rate is 1.5 Kg per mu, with about 18,000 hills planted per mu, and 2 grain seedlings per hill, using the fertilization method of promoting early, stabilizing mid-season, and ensuring late-stage growth.
In view of the moderate growth period of K You 926, its relatively good rice quality, and its characteristics of balanced high yield across two seasons, especially the stable and high yield of ratoon rice, it should mainly be deployed in areas below 350 m altitude for cultivation as mid-season rice plus ratoon rice; secondly, it can be deployed in low mountainous areas for high-quality rice development.
Because this combination has a compact plant type, its panicles are smaller than those of Shanyou 63, and its 1,000-grain weight is higher than that of Shanyou 63, while its other characteristics are roughly equivalent to those of Shanyou 63.
