Qingshu No. 4 is a new potato variety developed by the Crop Institute of the Qinghai Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences by crossing Niutou as the female parent and Dixiri as the male parent. It was approved by the Qinghai Provincial Crop Variety Approval Committee in 2003.

1. Characteristics. It is a late-maturing variety, with a plant height of about 110 cm and a stem diameter of 1.4 cm. The number of main stems is 2-4, and the number of branches is 3-5. The yield per plant is 1.26 kg, the number of tubers per plant is 7-11, and the weight per tuber is about 130 g. The tubers contain 17.12% starch, 24.6 mg/100 g vitamin C, 1.86% crude protein, and 0.538% reducing sugar, and taste good when steamed. It is drought-tolerant, cold-tolerant, and highly salt-alkali tolerant, and the tubers store well. It is relatively resistant to late blight, ring rot, and blackleg, and resistant to mosaic virus. The average yield is 2912 kg/mu, 35.32% higher than the control Xiazai 65. It is suitable for planting in paddy fields and mountainous land in Qinghai Province, and also suitable for planting in the single-cropping region of northern China.

2. Cultivation points. Before sowing, select disease-free, uninjured young vigorous tubers of 30-50 g as seed potatoes, and sow whole tubers. The suitable sowing time is mid-April, and the sowing rate is 150-200 kg/mu; the row spacing is 70 cm and the plant spacing is 25-30 cm, with a density of 3000 plants/mu in paddy fields and 4000 plants/mu in dry land. In paddy field areas with high heat, use flat planting and wide-row large-ridge and equal-row spacing planting, and wide-narrow row planting may also be used, with wide rows of 80-100 cm and narrow rows of 25-30 cm; in mountainous areas with low heat, ridging with equal-row spacing planting may be used.
