How to cultivate green-haired turtles? Cultivation method with Angelica and Pine Needle Solution
When using the yellow-margined box turtle (Mauremys mutica) or other aquatic turtles to cultivate green-haired turtles, whether using the green water method, direct method, grafting method, or spore water method, it takes at least 40-50 days before the sprouting tips of Basicladia chelonum (turtle-shell basicladia algae) can be seen emerging on the turtle shell. Only the Angelica and Pine Needle Solution method achieves the fastest sprouting of Basicladia chelonum and the best results.
The formula for Angelica and Pine Needle Solution (calculated for cultivating 100 green-haired turtles): Angelica 200 g, fresh pine needles 200 g, brown sugar 100 g, calcium tablets 40 tablets, vitamin B12 20 vials. First mash the Angelica and fresh pine needles, soak all 5 items in an appropriate amount of clean water, filter after 24 hours, and take the supernatant for later use.
Clean the reserve turtles that have undergone enhanced nutritional cultivation with a soft-bristle brush in clean water, then place them in the Angelica and Pine Needle Solution for a 2-3 day soak. Remember, do not feed them during this time. At the same time, following the standard of 4-5 g of algae seed per turtle, place a sufficient amount of Basicladia chelonum into a clean water container for rapid cultivation: extend the light duration, increase light intensity, raise the water temperature, and prompt it to continuously release basicladia spores into the water, thereby increasing the spore concentration in the water body.
Remove the base turtles from the Angelica and Pine Needle Solution and let them dry. Rub the turtle shells vigorously with Basicladia chelonum, repeating 2-3 times. Then cut the remaining algae into fragments of less than 1 mm and put them into the spore water. Combine the spore water with the Angelica and Pine Needle Solution, then add clean water up to the required total volume, stir evenly, and distribute into the previously prepared containers (one turtle per container). Finally, place the turtles that have been rubbed with algae seed and dried into the containers to rest quietly. Do not feed them for half a month. Maintain a scattered-light environment dominated by shade, keep light intensity at around 2000 lux, and keep the temperature at 20-25°C. In 20-30 days, the sprouting tips of Basicladia chelonum can be seen emerging on the turtle shells.
