Method for Making River Crab Feed from Potatoes

Edible Gardening 0 views
Using potatoes to make river crab feed has the advantages of widely available raw materials, low cost, good palatability and rich nutrition, and river crabs like to eat it and grow readily. At the same time, this feed-making method is relatively simple; it can be produced on a large scale with machinery or made by hand, so potato crab feed has broad application value. The key processing and feeding techniques are introduced below for the reference of aquaculture farmers. Process flow: material selection -> cleaning -> cutting into pieces -> steaming -> crushing -> ingredient mixing -> shaping -> drying.

Processing techniques: (1) Material selection. Choose potatoes free of pests and diseases, without sprouting and without mildew as raw materials. Nutritionally rich spring potatoes are mostly used. (2) Cleaning. Remove the potato skins by machine or by hand, then wash clean with clear water. (3) Cutting into pieces. Cut the potatoes into small pieces of uniform size to help ensure even cooking during steaming. (4) Steaming. Use a stainless steel pot, an aluminum pot or a steamer to steam the potatoes until 80-90 percent cooked, then stop the heat and let them cool. (5) Crushing. After cooling, promptly scoop out the potatoes and crush them with machinery or by manual stirring into a paste or thick batter. (6) Ingredient mixing. To enhance palatability and increase nutritional content, add the following ingredients to the crushed potatoes at a ratio of 100 g salt, 50 g flavoring, 100 g asafoetida and 200 g vitamin C per 100 kg of potatoes, and stir them evenly in good time. (7) Shaping. Use machinery or manual work to form small cubes or pellets of suitable size. (8) Drying. Sun-dry or oven-dry promptly, then seal in plastic bags for packaging and storage.

Feeding method: feed adult crabs 2-3 times a day and juvenile crabs 1-2 times a day, but only feed again after the feed from the previous feeding has been eaten up. The feed should be placed in a clean spot, and it is best to set up feeding trays for feeding.
