Prevent poisoning when feeding potatoes to pigs: these points need attention
Improper storage of potatoes can cause sprouting and rotting, and pigs are highly prone to poisoning after eating them.
1 Clinical symptoms
Mental excitement and restlessness, random squealing, and running and bumping around the pen. After a long time, the pig becomes depressed, sways while walking, has weak hindquarters, and in severe cases has paralysis of the limbs, lies on the ground unable to stand, has difficulty breathing, and has cyanotic conjunctiva. If rescue is not timely, it will die of heart failure. In mild or chronic poisoning cases, the main changes are drooling, vomiting, abdominal pain, constipation or diarrhea, and bloody stools.
2 Treatment methods
If potato poisoning is suspected, food should be withheld immediately for one day to make the pig hungry. Treatment is based on the principles of maintaining liver and heart function, eliminating toxins, and detoxifying, with integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine. The measures are:
2.1 Vitamin C 20 ml, analgin 10 ml, furosemide 40 ml, glucose solution 50 ml, and normal saline 1000 ml, mixed once for intravenous injection, at this dose once daily for 2 consecutive days.
2.2 Sodium sulfate 500 g and ordinary water 5000 mi, dissolved once and administered orally.
2.3 Alum powder: Fritillaria 25 g, Angelica dahurica 25 g, Curcuma 30 g, Scutellaria baicalensis 30 g, Descurainia sophia 30 g, licorice 25 g, Pyrrosia 25 g, Coptis chinensis 30 g, gentian 30 g, and rock sugar 150 g, decocted once in water or mixed together with boiling water, then administered orally after it cools to warm. Once daily, for 3 consecutive days.
