Detailed Introduction to the Shanxizhan 11 Rice Variety
Breeding institution: Foshan Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Guangdong Province.
Approval status: Approved by the National Crop Variety Approval Committee.
Variety approval number: Guoshendao 990014.
Variety origin: Shanxizhan 175 / Xianhuangzhan 8.
Characteristics: A temperature-sensitive indica rice. Plant height 97.6-104.4 cm, erect plant type, relatively strong tillering, cold-tolerant, good grain color at late stage. Average total grains per panicle 167.4, seed-setting rate 82%, 1000-grain weight 20.5 g, grains slender, rice grains crystal clear, transparency grade 1, gelatinization temperature 5.9, gel consistency 68 mm, amylose content 25.6%, designated by Guangdong Province as grade-one quality rice in appearance, relatively good grain quality, excellent appearance quality. Full growth period 129.4 days; late-maturing for the early season and mid-maturing for the late season in the Pearl River Delta, making it a dual-purpose variety for both early and late seasons. Erect plant type, relatively strong tillering ability, cold-tolerant, good color conversion at late stage. Shows relatively good high-yielding performance and yield stability, with wide adaptability. Resistant to bacterial leaf blight, moderately susceptible to rice blast. In 1997, it participated in the South China late indica group regional trial of the southern rice region, with an average yield of 368.92 kg per mu, increasing yield by 14.5% and 18.0% respectively compared with the controls Jingxian 89 and Boyou Gui 99. In 1998, in the continued trial, the average yield was 475.92 kg per mu, increasing yield by 12.4% and 7.4% respectively compared with the controls Jingxian 89 and Boyou Gui 99. In the 1998 production trial, the average yield was 466.53 kg per mu, increasing yield by 9.4% compared with the control Jingxian 89, and equal to Boyou Gui 99, ranking second.
Cultivation points: Choose fields of medium fertility for planting. Apply sufficient basal fertilizer, topdress early, increase phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, maintain a medium fertilization level, and prevent lodging caused by excessive nitrogen. Apply mid-season fertilizer as appropriate, with 5-6 kg of compound fertilizer or 2-3 kg of urea per mu. For irrigation and drainage, adopt shallow irrigation at the early stage, prolonged exposure and light drying at the mid stage to promote rooting and healthy plants, and keep the field surface moist at the late stage; do not cut off water too early. Pay attention to the prevention and control of pests and diseases.
Suitable range: Planting in Guangdong, central and southern Guangxi, and southern Fujian Province.
