Introduction to the Characteristics and Traits of the Rice Variety Shanyou 77
Breeding institution: Sanming Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Fujian Province.
Approval status: Approved by the Hunan Provincial Crop Variety Approval Committee, approved by the Fujian Provincial Crop Variety Approval Committee in 1996, and approved by the National Crop Variety Approval Committee in 1998.
Variety approval number: Guoshen Dao 980005.
Variety source: Zhenshan 97A x Minghui 77.
Characteristics and traits: An indica-type early-maturing hybrid. Relatively cold-tolerant at the seedling stage, moderate tillering ability, and heat-tolerant at the late stage. Plant height about 100 cm, effective panicles per mu 180,000-200,000, 130-150 grains per panicle, seed-setting rate above 80%, 1000-grain weight 27 g. Brown rice rate 79.8%, milled rice rate 73%, head rice rate 59.9%, length-to-width ratio 2.2, chalkiness degree 7%, transparency grade 2, gel consistency 54 mm, amylose content 24.8%, protein content 9.5%. When grown as early rice in South China, the whole growth period is 128 days, basically the same as Shanyou 64. Good yield potential, relatively good grain quality, and wide adaptability. Moderately resistant to bacterial blight, susceptible to rice blast. In the 1995-1996 medium rice regional trials in the southern rice region, the average yield per mu was 504 kg, an 8% increase over the control Weiyou 64.
Cultivation points: For early rice, sow in early to mid-March, with a seedling age of about 30 days; transplanting spacing of 16.7 cm x 20 cm or 20 cm x 20 cm, with 1-2 seedling plants per hill; apply sufficient basal fertilizer and topdress early. Apply 9-10 kg of pure nitrogen per mu in the main field, with an N:P:K ratio of 1:0.4:0.5.
Suitable range: There is a relatively large planting area in Fujian, Guangdong, Hunan, Guangxi, Jiangxi and other provinces.
