Introduction to the Characteristics and Cultivation Key Points of the Shanyou 86 Rice Variety

(1) Variety source: Developed in 1992 by the Wanxian City Agricultural Science Institute by crossing "Zhenshan 97A" with the self-bred restorer line "Wanhui 86".

(2) Characteristics: It is a medium-maturing medium indica rice. The whole growth period is 146 days, comparable to the maturity period of the control variety "Aiyou S". Plant height is 106 cm, with strong tillering ability. Seedling growth is vigorous, plant type is relatively good, stems are thick and resistant to lodging, and late-stage ripening color is good, with about 180,000 effective panicles per mu. Average grains per panicle is 138.9, seed-setting rate is 83.4%, and 1000-grain weight is 28.4 g. Grains are golden yellow, awnless, and glume tips are colorless. Brown rice rate is 80.53%, milled rice rate is 69.08%, appearance and eating quality are medium, and according to resistance identification in 1994-95, leaf blast is grade 5-6, neck blast is grade 5-7, and disease resistance is better than the control.

(3) Yield performance: In the two years from 1994 to 1995, it participated in the provincial regional trial, with an average yield of 48.65%, an increase of 5.23% over the control. In 1995, production trials were conducted at points including Liangping, Fuling, Dachuan, and Guanghan in Wanxian City, with an average yield of 523.26 kg per mu, an increase of 5.82% over the control "Aiyou". In the same year, production demonstrations were carried out in the three prefectures and cities of Wanxian, Fuling, and Dachuan on 307.4 mu, with an average yield of 530.7 kg per mu, an increase of 4.6% over the control "Aiyou S".

(4) Suitable planting areas: Suitable for planting in areas around 800 m in the mountainous areas around the basin and in paddy fields with relatively poor water sources in the summer drought area of eastern Sichuan.
